So, about that parcel.

I was worried that, when I opened the parcel it was going to (a) contain something disappointingly uninteresting, and (b) contain no evidence of why it was supposed to be preserved intact til 21st.

(Edit Or, ChrisC adds, (c) something really embarassing to open in front of your parents (they're visiting at present) and then admit to on LJ. I hadn't thought of that.)

As it turns out, (a) was not true, but (b) was. It was indeed a birthday present (although some weeks late), and a very nice one. Some friends in Oxford had sent me a gift from The Spicery; various sets of measured spices for creating different meals. It's really quite exciting.

But no particular reason why I couldn't have been excited by them on Thursday.

I emailed the senders to thank them, and see if they could shed any light. Apparently, the website forces you to choose a 'sending' date and has no option for "soon as you can". Accordingly Jo selected the first available date, which happened to be 21st September. For some reason, The Spicery interpreted this as my birthday and added a warning to their postage label.

So the parcel itself was pretty fabulous, but the explanation of the date isn't particularly interesting.

As yet no mysterious elderly women have requested assistance with menial tasks.
