"All clear," Merlin said, turning to hug the alot around its massive furry neck. "I'll bring you some food tonight, just stay here." Then Merlin slipped from the thicket and was gone, dashing back toward the castle, anxious not to be missed.
The alot propped its head on its paws forlornly. It was only a moment, though, before the concealing branches were pushed back to admit another human to the alot's hiding place. The alot grumbled uncertainly as it eyed the newcomer, who crouched and held out one hand for the alot to sniff.
"Don't worry, nothing's going to happen to you." Arthur plopped to the ground alongside, and patted the alot between its horns. "Merlin's an idiot to think he could hide alot of magic from me."
