*shrugs* I dunno, the Thelamite I was dating read it all the time, and he was 3rd Degree...
He told me all kinds of shit he wasn't supposed to, because I was his girlfriend and it's kind-of like spousal privelage, like with doctors.
Even then there were things he didn't tell me, because they were things 3d Degrees weren't allowed to discuss with anyone, even each other, but I got the impression most of the "silence" rules were written for two reasons: To keep people from preaching, and to prevent persecution from non-Thelamites. I have a feeling the latter was the more important one. I mean, there was a time (and still is, in some states) when the knowledge that someone is into ceremonial magick is enough to get them not only fired, but arrested.
And yes, most of Crowley's writings were purposefully misleading, but that's wy you have to read his crap 14 million times. And no one who writes about a "religion" (for lack of a better term) is 100% accurate about the intentions of the founder (opinions are like assholes, etc.), so while the interpretations of others could be suspect, that's why you read a whole lot of them, and draw your own conclusions, like studying anything else.
