So, I totally planned to post a (much delayed) Honeymoon Recap last night. I also planned to watch Chuck, laugh/groan at the absurdity of Heroes, and enjoy the hell out of Castle. I also planned on getting a decent night's sleep.
I should have just shot myself in the foot.
Yesterday, we had an appointment for a window company to come and give us an estimate. Its a project that L and I have on the books as needing to be done sometime in the next 12-24 months. The appointment was for 7:30 PM, and I got a reminder call about 6:00, as well as being told the guys were running late. No problem. I adjusted my plan to: Window Estimate, Chuck, skip Heroes, Castle, Honeymoon post. Needless to say that was even too ambitious.
The guys didn't get there until 8:00 PM. I thought, "Okay, 1 hour and then Chuck, Castle, then bed." Things were going downhill on the planning front.
The window itself is pretty good. Low U factor, low air seepage, and a tough glass that the guy pounded a nail into a 2X4 with. Seriously! He used a pane of glass as a hammer. Knowing my monkeys, they would bust it inside of a week, but I'm cautiously optimistic. Given the state of our leaky, single pane windows, these are a upgrade of several light years.
At 9:30PM, they give us their first pitch. Way more expensive than we'd planned. Then they gave us their final pitch at about 10:00 PM. Its actually close to the ballpark (a block or two away) of what we were thinking. Some haggling ensued and we went for it. By the time they left after the lengthy application process, it was nearly 11:00 PM. Once we cleared things away and suffered through some buyer's remorse, it was 11:30 and we were wiped.
So, in the end, yesterday looked like this: Buy windows, bed.
More to come on the home renovation front. Honeymoon recap later today. If anyone out there is interested in getting windows for their homes, let us know and we can refer you. Yes, we have an incentive to do so. No, we will not refer anyone that does not want a referral.
