Haunted by Taylor Swift as the prompt.
The crowd watched on as a striking couple took center stage in the ballroom, his crisp dress robes whirling around the hem of her silk gown as they swirled on the dancefloor. He was tall, handsome with an easy smile, and she was his match in looks; long blonde hair and bright blue eyes, rosy cheeks and fair skin.
Pansy’s grip tightened on her champagne glass as she watched them from her vantage point atop the marble staircase. Her stomach tightened in a familiar sensation, bile rising in her throat. She could hear the murmurs from the crowd; how beautiful they were together. A perfect couple.
It should have been her. He was hers.
At least, he used to be.
She remembered the way it felt when he held her in his arms, much the way he was holding another woman now. She remembered how it felt when he turned those laughing green eyes on her, piquing her ire until she lashed out at him and they tumbled into bed together. If she closed her eyes, she could still feel his hands against her skin, recall his lips against hers.
Seamus.
He haunted her. He had left her, and now he was haunting her. Taunting her.
The words she’d never been able to say-- I love you-- felt heavy on the tip of her tongue, but she forced them away. It was too late for her, for them. She’d never thought he would leave her, that they would break in such a way.
The music stopped, and she watched as Seamus dipped his partner low for a kiss, the couple ignoring the cheers from the onlooking crowd. Seamus Finnigan and his blonde bride-to-be. Did he kiss her the way he’d once kissed Pansy?
Her champagne glass shattered in her hand.
You and I walk a fragile line
I have known it all this time
Never ever thought I'd see it break.
Never thought I'd see it...
