It was Pansy’s mantra, her modus operandi of choice. She was young, wealthy and beautiful; the world was at her feet, and with Draco by her side, she had everything she ever wanted. In her adolescent naivety, she had thought that she would always have that.
Holidays in Gstaad, trips to Monaco and Milan; nothing was outside the realm of possibility for Draco and Pansy. Indulgent, absent parents and bottomless Gringotts accounts made for wild dreams that pushed the limits of reason and sanity.
Pansy wanted to go to Carnival in Rio; Draco promised that they would go together as soon as they finished Hogwarts. For his part, he wanted to see the sun-drenched beaches of Bali. He just smirked when Pansy teased him about the remarkable sunburn he was sure to get.
The seasons changed with passing time, and the encroaching darkness laid claim to their nirvana of childish dreams. As Draco became more and more obsessed with the suicidal mission he’d been charged with, Pansy could only stay close and offer what empty reassurances she could.
They’d dreamed as if they would live forever, but neither of them were guaranteed tomorrow.
