Title: Words Unspoken (1/1)
Author: Leigh, aka leigh_adams

Rating: PG
Word Count: 491
Summary: Padma and Parvati are the only ones who can really understand George's loss.
Author’s Notes: First place and Mod's choice at sortinghatdrabs this week.  Pairing was Patil twin/Weasley twin (interpretation up to the authors) and the prompt was "we understand."

"And so it is that on this day, we come together to honor those who gave their lives so that we might enjoy the freedoms we have today."

The nameless Ministry official continued to speak about the Battle of Hogwarts and those that fell there, but neither Padma wasn't really listening. Her brown eyes were focused on the man who sat in the back of the Great Hall, his flaming red hair standing out in the shadows. His family was there, of course, but they were sitting near the front with Harry.

A gentle squeeze on her hand told Padma that her sister, her twin, had also seen George slip in late to the ceremony.

The air in the room felt eerie as the man began to list the names of the fallen, as if their spirits were still roaming the castle where they'd taken their last breaths.

"Remus Lupin."

Padma didn't know what she would have done if she'd lost Parvati the way Fred had lost George. Her twin was her other half, her everything, part of her very soul. She had read somewhere, maybe in a Muggle magazine, that there had been studies on the psyche of identical twins. Whether it was their shared identities or the fact that they'd shared a womb for nine months, Padma wasn't Padma without Parvati.

And clearly, George wasn't George without Fred.

"Nymphadora Tonks."

Even though the Patil twins were as different personality-wise as Fred and George had been alike, they were still much closer than normal siblings. The other Weasleys were grieving, of course, but none of them could fully comprehend what it was like to lose a twin.

Death was inevitable, but Fred had been taken from George far too early.

Padma thanked the gods that her twin has escaped unscathed.

"Colin Creevey."

George wobbled slightly and reached out to grasp the wall, and it didn't take a genius to see that he was heavily intoxicated. Time supposedly healed all wounds, but Padma knew that this was one wound that might never heal. It would close, probably almost all the way, but there would always be a part of him that was raw.

The hand in hers tugged again, and Padma tore her gaze away from George to meet her twin's eyes. They were full of so many emotions; hurt, relief, sadness, but most of all, understanding. She knew that they echoed the own feelings that Parvati could see in her eyes.

Without a word, the pair moved silently through the back of the room, hugging the wall until they were behind the ginger-haired man. Releasing the vice-like grip she had on her twin's hand, Padma reached out to take George's hand. On the other side, Parvati did the same.

"Fred Weasley."

Blinking with surprise, George looked down to find two pairs of warm brown eyes looking up at him.

It'll be okay, Padma thought. We understand.
