The moon shone down upon the fields surrounding the Burrow, casting everything beneath it in a pale, ethereal light. The tent where tomorrow's festivities would take place was already set up in the back garden, though no one was there to see it. The entire house, save for one or two souls, was abed.
One of those still awake was standing at the boundary of the Burrow's wards, looking out over the gently waving field of grass. A bit of wind caught Fleur's hair, tugging the white-blonde strands around her face. She knew she should be asleep, but her mind was too full to rest.
Her lips twitched against his as strong hands held her hips, thumbs brushing idly over the skin beneath her jumper.
"You're so beautiful, Fleur," he murmured, pulling back to gaze into her blue eyes. Her lips were parted and pink, her cheeks flushed with awareness.
"Plus," she whispered, fisting one hand in his wavy hair, "Embrasse-moi encore."
Cedric didn't know what she was saying, but it didn't matter. Lips twitching, he ducked his head again and captured her lips with his.
Fleur was so wrapped up in her thoughts that she jumped when she heard footsteps behind her. Her wand was out in a flash and pointed at her visitor before she realized who it was.
"Bill," she said, visibly relieved. "Chérie, you scared me."
Her fiancé was silent as he moved to stand next to her. "What are you doing out here? You should be asleep."
"I was zinking," she answered. "I could not sleep."
"Were you thinking about him?" At her surprised expression, Bill smiled and ducked his head. "Yes, I know about him. And I don't mind that you don't want to talk about him, it's just..." he fell silent and collected his thoughts before finishing, "if Cedric hadn't have died, would we be here today? On the eve of our wedding?" His smile was gone when he looked up at her, his normally laughing eyes totally serious.
Her heart panged at the sight of him, and it was instinct for her to move and wrap her arms around him.
"I did not love 'im," she murmured. "Zere was not enough time to know if it could 'ave been love, and zen 'e was gone. I do not like to zink on what might 'ave been."
"That's all I needed to know." Dropping a kiss onto her forehead, Bill turned to head back towards the Burrow but was stopped when she seized his hand.
"Non, zat is not all you need to know," she retorted. "I did not love 'im, but I do love you." Going up on tiptoe, she brushed her lips over every single precious scar on his face, reminders of how close she'd come to losing him as well.
When the last scar had been kissed, she brought her lips to his and whispered, "And I always will. Toujours," before sealing her words with a kiss.
