My creative writing class was canceled today and I ended up talking with a classmate for over an hour. I think I scared her away. I kept trying to draw her into doing some talking, and she kept being shy and not really talking and leaving these awkward silences. So I abandoned all and started going on about Women in Refrigerators, and some of the ( Read more... )

I guess some people are just shy. But yeah I can't imagine not wanting to talk enthusiastically about comics! :)

Yeah, that last one kinda threw me off. Just... isn't that what comic books geeks do? You immediately ascertain Marvel or DC, Superman or Batman, etc.

IDK, maybe she just wasn't feeling like socializing.

Dear, if you ever want to gab about comics I'm so there! I really need to chat with fandom people more often. In fandom I'm not weird for thinking vastly thinky thoughts about things like how many hours of sleep a Bat would call 'a good night's sleep'.

I'm sadly one of those people that reads wikipedia to understand the back story for DCU and Marvel comics. Wiki really helps because I haven't read all the comics for X-Men, DCU, Superman, or Iron Man. I think I got more into it because of fan fiction though and the movies.

But yes! I also have a preference for Marvel over DCU, but I think it's because I love how the new movies coming out are tied together. I also love the teams and almost everyone having powers of some sort.

But, um yeah it's just weird for people who have read some of the comics or at least watched the movies! not have an opinion.

Yeah, I'm with you on the wiki articles since I don't have the money to keep up with comics. I'm a DC girl because I adore Batman and all things Gotham, and I also like the Justice League cartoons because you get that teamwork going on, but each hero has his or her own life and quest. I mean, I like the X-Men (Rogue is my girl!), but only a few of them have a hero life outside of the team. I do like the family-ness, but then that's why I like the Bats as well.

The Marvel movies have been amazing. Continuity! Have you seen the youtube videos by itsjustsomerandomguy about Marvel and DC? They're incredibly fun.

I think she had an opinion, just... I don't know. Class again tomorrow. I'll see if she feels like talking then. She may just not be crazy about me. I'm a bit outspoken in class, may have made a poor impression.

I saw the youtube vids! :) The funny thing is I LOVE the new Chris Nolan Batman movies and the fan fiction but the never quite got into the story the same way I did for X-Men. But I think for me what I liked was the team and I found some really good fiction for the fandom.

I was also rather outspoken in class. I really enjoy class discussions and do not like the idea of staying silent and not voicing my thoughts on the topics at hand. I also find that if I do plan on participating I end up learning more because I don't want to sound like an idiot or uninformed during the discussions. So for me it was a great way to learn and I felt more engaged in the material. Whenever I'm in a situation where you're supposed to just sit there and absorb I end up daydreaming about hot guys having really dirty sex. :)

You are a woman after my own heart! The best class I've ever been in was a philosophy class where participation was mandatory, but the prof wasn't disturbed by two or three people holding court for a class so long as we were making good arguments and staying on topic. He guided our conversations with leading questions, and sometimes called on someone who hadn't said anything with a specific question. It was awesome. I learned so much.

Contrast this to a class I had where we were all supposed to participate, but half the class had no idea what was going on, and when a few of us tried discussing a topic it was always the same four or five people who paid attention. Then the prof got all butthurt and demanded we shut up so the people who had no opinion or had no idea what was going on or just plain didn't care could talk. It sucked. I learned almost nothing.

I tend more towards romantic and action scenes in my daydreams because my imagination is kinda dirty. :)

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one day dreaming up stories during boring classes. I also disliked classes where not everyone came prepared.

If I like the class I'll always be prepared, but admittedly for classes I hate I'm sometimes not prepared.
