So i was watching the VP debates last night....and i cringed just about every time Palin spoke about anything. I thought Biden was accomplished, well-spoken, had conviction, and even showed a little emotion (although i do question the authenticity of anything done by either candidate while the cameras are rolling). So this morning, i was expecting to wake up and hear that Biden had trumped Palin and was the clear winner of the debate. But, no. Oh, no. Apparently, Palin did not have to do "well." She did not need to come up with factual, relevant statements in response to any of the moderator's questions. She didn't need to know her stuff. She just needed to NOT EMBARRASS HERSELF. Yes. Because she did not fall flat on her face and become the blubbering idiot she was with Katie Couric, she "won." I can't tell you how much that annoys me. I mean, I can see where our expectations for leadership have been lowered quite a bit with the current administration, to the point that as long as the person speaking doesn't sound mentally handicapped, we think they are doing "pretty good." But please, people. Be serious. If anyone believes that last night's debate revealed Palin to be capable of leading this country (a very real possibility if McCain is elected), they must have been blinded by the combined glare of her cutesy glasses and painfully whitened teeth.
