Understandings

You people... Really.

We're all in this together, you know. The sooner you realise that, the sooner we'll all be better off.

Too true. I admit, I had trouble with the concept of the inclusive "we" for a while, but talking to the right people does help with such bigger picture thinking.

Now I find myself a bit hungry to explore that "we" and determine where I may fit into it best.

It isn't that I can't relate to such feelings, only that... Well, it simply serves no purpose here, does it? We must all endure. Entitlement has no meaning here.

No, it really doesn't. The trials we face seem to serve as the great equalizer, as well as showing a need for community.

Precisely! Rome may not have functioned in such a way, but there's no reason we can't.

This is a much smaller group, more tribal in function than anything, but looser. We are as a band of Romani, drifting from place to place.

I for one want to see how this band takes to revelry.

Well... Romans, yes.

I meant Gypsies. Some of my more valued allies. I have not been to Rome in centuries. Unfortunately my most potent enemies settled there in later years.

'Gypsies'...

They do help with the boredom.

Do we have any here?

I do not believe so. I myself am the only one I have seen who adorns himself in their style. At least usually. I still have my earrings, but my ponytail holder seems to have disappeared.

Then they're people?

Well, I suppose they could have some use, if they have a need to entertain.

A people, yes. Not exactly my people, but once...well. That is long past. We share some roots in the region.

What sort of entertainment do you prefer?

Something we can all get along to, I suppose. I once tried to rally a nice little party in honour of those who were out, risking life and limb and got the most atrocious responses!

I still don't understand why.

Can anyone argue with feasting and music and a bit of drink? It seems a universal mode merely flavored by local traditions.

I for one have contacted a potions maker and shall be getting a touch properly inebriated for the first time in centuries a bit later. That should be good for a laugh, as my fierce nature always settled to friendly embers under the influence of a good drink.

We need puppet shows...

Puppet shows, singing and theatre.
