"The DJ was playing that kind of terrible techno that only exists because it sounds good when you're on drugs. If I were a wiser woman, I'd catch a clue there, that there's something wrong with ingesting substances that make the most plasticine hollowed-out drum-machine beat topped off with the obligatory whistle-inducing apocalyptic crescendo sound like God's little side project with Debussy, Bach, and Beethoven. Instead I've convinced myself that trance DJs are fucking geniuses who make everyone endure a whole lot of monotonous, soppy crap just so they sneak in those moments, those golden fucking moments that send you on your teeth-sucking dope-smile descent into transcendence, into those eyeball-rolling-into-the-back-of-your-brain inhalations of ecstasy, and down those whirling-dervish dives into drum-and-bass deviancy deep, deep, so motherfucking deep inside those purple vortexes of mirror-world splendidness so unimaginable to the uninitiated that it just doesn't seem right that all that remains after you emerge from the genie-bottle world is a curiously three-dimensional awakening the next morning complete with an aching jaw, sweaty pajamas, mascara clinging tot he circles under your eyes, and an all-consuming sadness that you just slept through another day, a day that might have been better than any other old miserable Sunday, if only you'd given it the chance."
