The snitch floated in front of Draco's nose a little bit before flittering off. He made a small swipe at it and missed it by a fraction of an inch. "Worth a shot." He muttered to himself. He was still on the ground at this point. It wasn't a normal situation to be in, so naturally Draco took a minute to look around at his newly found perspective of the world. However, he found that the brightness of the sky was a bit irritating.
"Well this is something I haven't seen in a while," Said Madame Hooch as she stepped up to the two Seekers. "Normally they don't stay so close together when they fall," she said expertly. Draco made a wobbly attempt at getting up, but only managed to trip and fall back onto the unconscious Gryffindor.
"Dammit," he said. He looked down at Harry. He resembled something of a Muggle cartoon character that had just been squashed, only a little more inflated. His arms and legs were spread apart as if he were trying to make a snow angel in the grass, and his face was close to expressionless. There was a small hint of irritation furrowed into his eyebrows, no doubt his last thought before he was knocked out. Draco felt a pang of guilt, and resisted the idea of laughing. He really did feel bad about falling on Harry and knocking him out. Regardless of the situation, making fun of Harry in pain or in an uncomfortable situation was a die hard habit. It didn't help when his captain poked the dark haired boy in the stomach with the end of his broom, or the fact that Harry let out a squeaky breath like a teddy bear when he did. Draco let out a choked laugh. Madame Hooch made quick work of stopping the situation.
Soon the head of the two houses were in front of them. Snape frowned and McGonagal had two new worry lines on her face.
"Oh my goodness," McGonagal said.
"Get up Malfoy." Said Snape. Draco wasn't entirely sure if he could, but he gave it another go. He wobbled a bit, then decided to use his broom as leverage. Because of all the difficulty, Draco almost suspected that his captain had jinxed him with a Jelly-Leg Charm just for laughs. There was a slight sigh from Snape as he grabbed Draco's collar to give him extra help.
"Thank you, sir." Malfoy said. Snape nodded curtly.
"Well boys seeing as the two of you are here already," Madame Hooch started, "You might as well take this one up to the hospital wing." She motioned to Harry. The Slytherin captain snorted with detest. It was easy to say that Madame Hooch didn't respond well to lip from a student. "Or I could just declare Gryffindor the winner righ now." She said simply, holding her whistle a few inches away from her mouth.
"Do as she says boys," Snape said sternly. Madame Hooch.
"Well come on then, get the boy up." She said, shooing them a bit. Reluctantly, the Slytherin captain leaned down and hoisted Harry up. He put a limp arm over his shoulders, and the rest of Harry's body slumped down.
"Jesus Potter," complained the captain. "Well are you just gonna stand around all day Malfoy?" He asked irritated. Draco jumped in quickly at that, mirroring the captain's actions. Harry's glasses started to fall off of his face, but neither of the boys wanted to reach over to correct them. An annoyed Snape stepped forward and extended a long finger. He pushed the glasses up the bridge of his nose a little too far, and the Gryffindor's head lolled backwards. The two boys started to carry the unconscious boy up off of the feild when Madame Hooch blew her whistle.
"Gryffindor Seeker unconscious. The game is over. Slytherin wins 70 to 50." There was an uproar from the Slytherin section of the pitch, along with an equal amount of boos from everyone else.
"You think we should just leave him in the corridor someplace?" the captain asked Draco.
"What?"
"We carried him out of the pitch, who's to say we have to carry him up to the hospital wing?"
"You just want to leave him?" Draco asked. He admitted that before he would have thought of doing just that, however now the thought hadn't even crossed his mind.
"Why should we have to take him up? Besides, Madame Hooch should have known better than to leave him with Slytherins. How thick could you get?"
Draco had no response for this, none that he could use anyways. He couldn't very well defend Harry in front of the other Slytherin, nor could he just walk off and leave Harry in the corridor.
"Um..." Draco trailed off. He had no idea what to say.
"You see that? Slytherins can't be trusted," said a voice from behind.
"Then again, I expect we'd have done the same thing." Said another.
"True." The first voice agreed. The voices were accompanied by a pair of identical faces and bright red hair. "We can take it from here boys." Said one of the Weasley twins, most likely Fred.
"What'll you give us for him?" asked the captain, rising to the occasion.
"We wont jinx you." Said the other Weasley twin, most likely George.
"Well that's hardly a prize." He said. If it weren't for the fact that the two of them didn't want to take Harry up to the hospital wing, the conversation wouldn't have been so civilized. "Well here you go. It's only fitting that trash goes with trash anyways." said the captain. With that he let go of Harry and, because he wasn't expecting it, Draco buckled under the weight and nearly fell with the unconcious boy. He started to stride away almost before Draco could catch up.
"Bloody hell," Draco heard someone mumble from behind him.
"Ah Harry, you're up mate." Laughed one of the twins.
"My head..." Harry said. Draco turned around to see if he was alright.
"What d'you look so upset for?" The captain asked Draco. He faked a laugh.
"Nothing." He said, throwing on a smirk. The two turned the corner. Draco knew he would have to find a way to visit Harry in the hospital wing. How would present a bit of a problem.
"Hey Harry," Draco whispered as everyone was gathering their things.
"Go to hell Malfoy," Harry glared at him, then was quick to make it out of class with the rest of the Gryffindors.
"Harry's sore at you." Blaise said as the two of them walked out of Potions.
"Piss off." Draco spat. He picked up his step. Crabbe and Goyle weren't with him today, and Draco wasn't sure why, so on top of that this only proved a greater irritation.
"A little touchy are we?" Blaise laughed, apparently enjoying the effect it had on his friend.
"Go climb the Whomping Willow." Draco glared. This was the last thing he needed. He knew perfectly well that Harry was mad at him. It was sad to say that Draco didn't get around to visiting Harry in the hospital wing. It turned out that the fall Harry took did a number on his head. Because the only thing he needed was rest, Madame Pomfrey just let him sleep it off in the hospital wing for the next couple of days. Since he'd gotten out, Harry hadn't spoken or even looked at Draco. When he did, it was simply to get Draco out of his face. Draco had spent the whole week trying to track him down and get him to explain himself. Draco hadn't figured out why Harry was so sore with him, but guessed that it was because he hadn't found a way to see him. Then he'd realized that he was turning into Pansy, and stopped his efforts all together. Now all he could do was wait to see if Harry would talk to him on his own, but that looked about as likely as Draco climbing the Whomping Willow himself.
"Oh relax, I'm not here to talk about that problem." Blaise picked up step with him. "I was just going to ask you about Pansy."
"Pansy?" Draco looked at him, but didn't slow down.
"Yeah. Did you give it to her yet?" Blaise said, now lowering his voice.
"Give what to her?" Draco asked, then he'd remembered. Blaise had given him something to solve his problem with Pansy, but Draco had totally forgotten about it.
"I guess not." Blaise said, somewhat dissapointedly.
"It's still in my qudditch uniform." Draco said. He hadn't even taken it out yet. "We still have History next though," He said, now a bit anxious to get one of his problems out of the way.
"We'll get it afterwards." Blaise said. "Besides, I want to tell you how it works." He said. As they walked to their next class, Draco wondered just how complicated this thing Blaise had given him was.
Draco dug through his quidditch robes for the pocket that he'd stashed the thing in. Blaise stood over him, shifting back and forth from the balls of his feet to his heels. Finally Draco felt a pocket have something in it. The outline of the Thing was circular and small, probably no bigger than a muggle nickel. He reached in the pocket and pulled it out.
Draco had to stare at it a minute before talking to Blaise.
"What the hell is this?" Draco asked angrily. "This was your sure fire plan to solve my problems?"
"Yep." Blaise said smugly.
"What do you expect me to do? Propose to her? You gave me a bloody ring Blaise." It was easy to see that Draco was less than thrilled about this fact. The ring was simple and gold, with what looked like a small heart carved into it. It looked like it would fit perfectly on Pansy's middle finger. "I wanted to get her out of my hair. Giving her a promise ring was your brilliant idea?" He stood now, almost disgusted with the ring he held in the palm of his hand.
"You gonna let me explain now?" Blaise asked, apparently waiting out Draco's complaining. Draco didn't answer. "This isn't just a ring. When I said it would be your solution I wasn't kidding. I made it myself, or rather I bought the ring but I hexed the ring myself. The rings a bit cheap but I think It'll-"
"What's the point?" Draco interrupted.
"The ring," Said Blaise, getting a little annoyed himself, "is charmed to make whoever wears it completely without emotion for a short period of time. I designed it specifically for Pansy. I figured if you wanted to break up with her, you might want to do it without her sobbing all over you. You just slip it on her finger, and she's supposed to just sit there and agree with everything you say. When you say that you want to break up, she'll just agree with you then leave. It only works for a short time though. When she realizes that she's broken up with you she might be a royal mess, but because of the way the charm works, she wouldn't even be able to figure out why it was that she'd agreed. She could work to figure it out all she wanted, but the charm wouldn't let her figure out that you made her agree with everything you say. So because of it, she couldn't bother you about it anymore. You'll have broken up with her by that time, and you wont have any reason to talk to her. It's genious really."
Draco blinked a few times. Blaise smiled.
"And that's it?" Draco asked. Blaise looked a bit taken aback.
"What do you mean 'and that's it?' I'm a bloody genious for doing it. Mind you, it would work for all kinds of stuff. I expect if you used your imagination enough, you could use it to get just about whatever you wanted. Just think how much I could make off selling something like this around the school? Of course I wouldn't be able to do it publicly or else Pansy would figure out it was me and jump down my throat for it but still-"
"How'd you keep her away from me?" Draco asked, interrupting Blaise once again.
"Huh? Oh, that. I just told her that you were going to give her something special, and that if she saw you then she'd figure out what you were getting for her right away. I told her that if she ruined the surprise, then you guys would have no chance. Of course she'll figure out pretty quick that you don't, but still. That's all it took." Blaise said, shrugging. Draco nodded, taking this in.
"I should hang out with you more often." Draco said simply. Blaise shrugged.
"Don't expect me to pull out genious like this every other week. I'm not going to solve your problem all the time mate." He said. Blaise started walking toward the door.
"Well, I'm off to dinner. You coming?"
"Yeah, in a minute." Draco said, still looking at the ring in his palm. Blaise smirked as he went out the door.
So it would be just that simple. He would slip the ring on Pansy's finger, then Draco's problem would be over. He smiled. Simple as that. He put the ring in his pocket and was about to join Blaise when he froze. He could use the ring on Harry too, now that he thought about it. He could slip it on Harry's finger and then Harry wouldn't be mad at him any more. But what was he going to do? If he used it on Pansy, then Harry still wouldn't talk to him. If he used it on Harry, then Pansy wouldn't ever leave him alone. Who was he supposed to use it on, Harry or Pansy?
