I was late tonight (see previous post for the whys and wherefore) so things were already roling along when I got there. Mainly, we went over the Ensemble music and parts in the music.
Mary is a trip. She's going to be fun to work with.
When I did finally manage to get there, Mary asked what part I can sing... heh... told her about my audition for ACO shoir... when I was asked what part I wanted to sing. 1st Bass, 2nd Bass, 1st Tenor or 2nd Tenor. Someone said out loud "Oh good! Versitilty!" LOL.
One of the things Mary is planning for the opening scene/score is having all the guys in 'sperm' costumes. And we 'fight' to get to the egg. She hasn't decided WHO wins the fight yet, but she's already eliminated several of the guys already. Heh... I've not been eliminates yet LOL.
I've been assigned the part of Professor Weiss. I've got a small solo part as well as the tenor part in the chorus. I've not read through the script yet, but I already know I have a couple lines during a one of the musical scores.
This is going to be SO much fun! My only 'handicap' in this is I can't read a lick of music. I make up for it though with a Perfect Ear.
Some of the music in this thing is HARD! Syncopated rythyms, off beat counts, mixed beat pieces... even Mary is mentioning how hard some of this is. Rather complicated and against the 'natrual flow' of music. But it works. I can see how it works. Just getting my mind set in the way the music is written is whats going to be troublesome.
I think I'm going to be glad I'm not the Sound Tech on this one. I thought the LAST play had a few difficult moments? SHEESH! Whoever runs sound on THIS baby better be top notch and on his/her toes. Some of the cues are back to back with absolutely NO pause between scores. For example... the openening scene and music goes on for so long and fades out, then immediately segues into the next song. I hope she calls Tech in earlier than normal. I think they're gonna need more than 2 weeks.
Anyway... all in all, I think this is going to be a blast. Mary is fun and easy to get along with. She knows what she wants and drives us to give it to her, even this early into the rehearsals.
So there is my first rehearsal night.
