APOCALYPTIC INDUSTRIAL:Well, if the end is nigh, Thomas Rainer (L’Ame Immortelle) wants to smash it to bits under heavy boots and heavier percussion on Feuer Frei!. The focus is whittled to a singular motivation: to create beat-laden industrial, so much so that many of the songs are just excuses to pile on martial rhythms and hit the dancefloor-many songs are simply instrumentals littered with samples. What makes it work is the format in which he has layered his beats. Industrial has always had an appeal beyond its audio blueprints, moving into the bones and even the soul via corrosive electronics and a desire to move, to feel it at the core, allowing it to touch the elemental pulse. The intensity of the percussive drive during “Opferzeit” crackles with relentless aim. “Leistung” sounds like the amplification of blood as it pumps hard through the physicality of the hive body that manifests during a rave -there’s a mindless, repetitious design to it all. The synths add a darker mood to the latter tracks. Night has fallen, maybe it is the onset of early morning-time is irrelevant as sweat coats the body in sweet exhaustion, but the body keeps moving, keeps pushing on, beyond endurance, an instrument of denial. Never stop, the apocalypse skips merrily along the crest of a too near horizon. There is nothing left but to surrender. ~ JC Smith

INDUSTRIAL HARDCORE: With the success of the 2007 release, Fuck All Systems, Belarus’ own Ambassador21 decided to revisit their works of the past five years. Gathering together a collection of songs that have appeared on at least eight different releases and also including two live tracks from last year’s Fuck All Systems tour of Europe, Justified Thirst for Blood is an introduction to the history of Ambassador21 and also serves as a greatest hits collection. Ambassador21 successfully creates nightmare waves of sonic artillery that straddles the vicious genres of digital hardcore, power noise, and industrial metal. Not all of the tracks make for the easiest of listens since it seems that the motif for each song is to be as aggressive and abrasive as possible, while still adhering to unwritten conventions of melody and song structure. With ample doses of distortion and obscure sampling, as well as the occasional classical music track perverted to meet their needs, Ambassador21 creates powerhouse dance music meant for the cyber punk and wayward metal head. It is interesting to hear how the band has morphed from an Atari Teenage Riot digital hardcore act to a genre crossing entity in the realm of intensity driven industrial over the past five years. And by all accounts, they are getting better with age.
