A Day at the Huntington.

My annual pass to the Huntington Library and Gardens has quickly become one of the best investments I've ever made.  It's just a real joy to spend the day among beautiful objects, man-made and natural.  It's a good distance from my house, but I find that I'm so eager to get there when I'm heading out, and so relaxed and happy on the way home that I just don't notice the time it takes to get there.  Here's some photos from the latest jaunt from last weekend.

The vista from the front of the main house.  Nice front yard, yes?

Decoration on a fountain.

From the herb garden.  I have no idea what this is, except that it's yellow.  :)

Arbor.

Irises.  Van Gogh pretty much nailed it, didn't he?

Part of the desert garden, one of the world's largest and oldest.  Many of the cacti and succulents were planted in the early 20th century.

A lovely big sycamore against a brilliant fall sky.

Folly in the rose garden.

The roses were sparse, but there were a few brave blooms out.

Back porch of the main house.

Main staircase.

Fancy house is fancy.

Big old bookcase full of big old books.

It was a beautiful breezy, cool day with lovely clouds in the sky.

Couldn't post a couple of my favorite ones -- they keep coming showing up sideways here, even though they are oriented properly on Photobucket, but this is probably all you can stomach anyway.  :)
