A Mini Retreat

Feb 16, 2012 14:47

The other day, I went on a one person (me), mini-retreat from work.  I went took a long lunch and drove down the 605 to lovely little Seal Beach for lunch.

One of the many uses for a retired dinghy.

The pier.  The original was destroyed in the huge winter storms we had back in the early 1980s.  I love that they built it back in a nice, unpretentious, old-school wooden fashion.

Surfers, waiting for the perfect wave.  The smooth, glass-like surface of the sea gives some indication of the futility of this endeavor.

Nice, retro-tinted day for fishing!

Wooden pier pilings.

Looking east, towards the rest of Orange County.

Looking east, towards Long Beach and San Pedro.

Posing sea gull.

Sea foam.

Brown pelican.

Coast Guard boat pulling up.

Sea gulls at the shoreline.

Pier graffiti.

This is Slick, and he's the only seal left in Seal Beach these days.

I lovely, refreshing couple of hours!  I would love to live in Seal Beach.  Except for the coyote problem, it seems like a perfectly lovely little town.
