Asian eyelid surgery

Some Asians do not have eyelids. Some Asians get surgery to create an eyelid. There is much misunderstanding that surrounds this procedure. By far the greatest one is "they're doing it because they want to look white ( Read more... )

Someone could just as easily argue that when Asians get eyelid surgery they are trying to look black, since, well, blacks have eyelids too!

And when you say that some Asians don't have eyelids, do you mean they don't have any at all, or that the eyelids they do have are not prominent?

HAHA, YES!

"No eyelid" means there is no crease above the eye.

This woman has no crease.

Ah, gotcha! I actually knew that. I think I just had a stupid moment coz the first thing that popped into my head was, "If some Asians don't have eyelids, how do they close their eyes?" hahaha!

This is what happens when I study too much. My brain becomes saturated with abstract intellectual theories and concepts about such and such a topic, which then leaves it unable to grasp simple concepts.

HAHAHA, well, I get your confusion, because that thought came to me as soon as you asked. :)

Now that you've got me thinking about this topic, I've thought of a few cases in which white people DO usually admit to wanting certain black (or perhaps Latina) features-- the "big booty" phenomenon and the current trend for the "ideal woman" to have very full lips.

Of course, there are a few freakish white woman who have these attributes naturally-- Angelina Jolie and her gargantuan lips for example. But they are an aberration, just as black people with light eyes are.

And man, don't get me started on colored contacts! What would you say about Asian or black women who wear blue or green contacts? Are they trying to look white or are they trying to just look plain weird? Hell, when white people with brown eyes wear colored contacts it still looks bizarre to me.

I don't think anyone in their right mind would think that simply putting in a pair of colored contacts would make them look whiter. I don't think there are large sociological ramifications. I think Asian and black women put in colored contacts the same reason white women put in colored contacts: because they're cool. I've thought about violet or gray contacts, and I don't know of anyone who has naturally violet or gray eyes. People need to stop worrying about things like this.

To each is own I guess. Colored contacts look slightly inhuman to me-- unless they've improved them a lot in the last few years and I haven't been aware of it.

I have known some people who have naturally violet or gray eyes actually-- some of my relatives had eyes that were a kind of lavender/gray color.

They may not look realistic, but I don't think the realism of the contact lenses has anything to do what the wearer uses them for.

I'm never seen anyone like that myself...unless I harbor a secret desire to look like your relative.

True! I think that was the same thing I told my mother when I decided to dye my hair crayola red once.

Don't feel bad, I thought the same thing at first. I tried to compose like three different comments asking for clarification, realized I must be missing something, and gave up. :)

I can just imagine my stepmom reading this post. It wouldn't be 24 hours before she was off telling everyone who would listen that "Asians don't have eyelids!" This would give her something to do now that I've finally disabused her of her deep-seated and oft-repeated belief that black people play basketball better because they have extra bones in their feet.

HHAHAHAHA. Either I'm just easily amused tonight or you all are getting funnier.

What? There's a belief that black people play basketball better coz they have extra bones in their feet? Is that a widely held folk belief or is it specific to your stepmom? I've never heard that one before. Besides, didn't you know that black people play basketball better coz of their highly developed calf muscles which evolved to help them run away from lions and tigers in Africa? I hear they can also store spare water in those calves for periods of prolonged drought. ; )

That whole no eyelids comment sounded so Dale Gribble.

"...And that's why you can't sneak up on Asians while they sleep!"

I once was told that they call it a Mongolian Eyefold?

Is that right?!

I got a crease, but I'd like to call it something else.

I heard it called an "epicanthic fold", which Google tells me is more common in Mongolian descendants rather than all Asians. The definition is "A skin fold of the upper eyelid covering the inner corner of the eye."

That sounds like the chick with no crease above actually DOES have a crease, it's just hidden by her fancy fold.
