I essentially told a client that I did not have time for them today. He replied he'd stop calling and bothering me and I couldn't take it back, though I tried, he still ended the call with a repeated "We won't bother you again

I did a similar thing Monday. I think it's going around. Everyone seems to be feeling the stress. Everyone hits a breaking point. I think the desperate situation some of your clients are in probably adds to your stress.
I keep looking for guidance in how to fix something - when stressed, I snip at people, then regret it later. It's a slow process, because when I'm feeling the most stressed and short, there's no time for the rational thought, "You told yourself not to snap next time."
Maybe it IS going around. Maybe something in the water, or those dirty-energy lightbulbs everyone's installing which raise people's blood pressure by proximity, or... who knows :P Anyway thanks for the comment and encouragement.
I can relate. I feel like I do so much for the guys I support, but no matter how much attention I give each of them, it's never enough. I'll be leaving at the end of the day, and I get bombarded, and ultimately I have to go. And sometimes they're not very understanding of that.
Yeah I feel ya there. Yesterday's call was taken after 5:00pm - we have a "don't answer the phone after 5" policy but someone missed it by a few minutes and handed my client over to me (logically) when I was already trying to get out the door to meet my husband for a rushed dinner prior to an appointment, yada yada...
Most times I don't feel I go too far above and beyond. The steps to do my job have been clearly laid out by all the previous ladies in this position - the boss says I do a better job than any of them ever had, which is encouraging, but the clients don't react like I'm all that great :P :) I guess at the end of the day we've can only do our best. Good luck to you in matters like this, too.
Aww, that's not fun, friend. Hopefully they'll realize you're only one human and can only do so much. Don't be too hard on yourself, you yourself said that you went beyond the call of duty and did everything you could do be helping them out. Just try to focus on that and don't get so down over it. Anyone can also have a hard time and snap. Hopefully they'll see the help they've gotten and understand that you mean well. Hugs!
That's good to hear! So maybe things will work out and they'll not be so upset but realize that you have your limitations as to how much you can be expected to take on as well. Hope you're feeling better! /hugs!

Aw, this was a really quality post. In theory I’d like to write like this also - taking time and real effort to make a good article… but what can I say… I procrastinate alot and never seem to get anything done… Regards…
