i have been writing a bunch of songs lately, that i haven't really played for anybody or recorded or anything. but if there's still people out there who are interested in reading my lyrics, here are a few ditties i've been working on:

Setting Sail

prepare your lifeboats
this ship is setting sail
without you
without you

into horizons across the ocean
into continents you have never seen
into ambder dawns and placid skies
in countries where you have never been

and i will stay at home
and i will guard the throne
i will stay at home
i will guard the throne
till you come back

should you find spice, should you find tea
bring it back to me, bring it back to me
should you find gold, should you find mercury
bring it back to me, o! bring it back to me

should the orient steal your heart
find a mountain man who speaks the truths of stars
he'll tell your future, he'll speak my pain
he'll philosophize, until we meet again

and i will guard our wealth
and disregard my health
i will guard our wealth
and make use of myself
till you come back

I Could Build a Church

i am not a business man
i dont quite know just what i am doing
with this polyester suit and a briefcase in my hand
travelling all the land

i am not a business, man
my ressources are limited
i am not a bank, this is not the depression
we dont live in dustbowl arizona anymore

if we did id read the papers
and id still check the stock markets
i would trust our president
to lead us out of this

and if the new deal fails
and we move up north and mine them hills for gold
id sell my business suit
and care unto my family until im old

id like to think im an honest man
ive got a good work ethic, and a helpful hand
i could build a church if i believed in jesus christ
but ill just save myself, if that's alright

see i am not a pious man
i grow my crops, and mend my family the best i can
i dont need no ghost to tell me what im doing wrong
i am strong, yes i am strong

and if the preacher stones me
and sings his gospel in the name of god
i would build a beacon
and bury my bible in the sod

if this village hates me
and burns my crops and sells my cattle cold
i will mark my door with blood
and care unto my family until im old

Atlantis
(these are actually lyrics to an Establishment song that i wrote, that we will be playing this weekend at the shows).

shattered windows
broken locks
this riot is violent
you've lost the cause

tattered patches
mal-nourished dogs
broken ideals
you've lost the cause

so stop your protests
cuz nobody's listening

this movement died (in the 60s!)

you're not a martyr
you're not a saint
you're not a savior
your voice is faint

so stop your protests
cuz nobody's listening

When It's Dark Out
there's no one on the streets
there's no one in this city
when it's dark out
(when it's dark out)

we'll take to it like mobs
we'll close down all your shops
when it's dark out
(when its dark out)

we'll drink in all your bars
under open stars
when it's dark out
(when it's dark out)

we'll kiss in all your parks
yeah we'll kiss in all your parks
when it's dark out
(when it's dark out)

i dont make it back here anymore
i dont make it back here anymore
i dont make it back here anymore
in the daytime...

its been a busy day, a busy night
i dont mind, ill sleep alright
