Why I Will NOT Be Going to the Midnight Movies

Jul 14, 2011 22:53

pipmudturtle keeps trying to convince me that I need to see the final Harry Potter movie to complete the experience. I keep insisting that I don't.

Here are the reasons I will not be attending the Deathly Hallows opening tonight (or any other night):

1. Not that JKR had much internal logic to begin with, but by the last book, logic had simply been tossed aside in favor of melodrama

2. There is absolutely no reason to kill off that many major characters -- and if you're going to do it, you owe it to your readers to make certain each one gets a satisfying death scene "onstage" to provide closure!

3. The pages and pages and pages of nothingness -- camping, wandering around, angsting.

4. Thou Shalt Not Mess With the Weasleys -- they've had enough trouble as it is without splitting up the twins!

5. Did I mention internal logic? I think I skipped almost the entire last book and just read the beginning and end ... and I had no trouble following the plot, either.

and finally ...

6. There is no fecking way a Potions Master would NOT have created an antidote to that bloody snake! I mean, the first scene in Book One has him telling the class methods of curing poisons for cryin-out-feckin-loud!

There are only two scenes I'd like to see -- I plan to borrow somebody's DVD once it comes out and skip to those scenes whilst ignoring the rest of the show.

1. Neville finally coming into his own

2. "Get away from my daughter, you bitch!"

can you watch too many movies?, you shall not pass, harry potter universe, like and equal are not the same thing
