Yummy!

pipmudturtle and I just tried a new restaurant - I love trying out new foods. Even if you hate whatever you order, at least it's an interesting experience! We walked down to the Colombian restaurant and basically just picked something off the menu. Oddly, neither of us has ever eaten Colombian food, though there are a lot of Colombian people in the Upstate of SC. We like Cuban and Mexican and Brazilian, so we knew we'd at least like something we got. It was really good!

Pip got the Bandeja Paisa, a sort of sampler plate, with a small sausage, a steak-let, fried pork rinds, an avocado, fried plantains, and a corn cake. I got a really thin steak, an arepa, which is like a thick corn tortilla, and both our plates came with a huge pile of beans and rice. I enjoyed the fact that I didn't actually know exactly what everything on our plates was -- and I could not identify all of the spices in the cooking, either!

We were the only "gringos" in the place -- and I know that term is Mexican instead of Colombian. Everyone else was Colombian, and the waiter seemed actually a little nervous that we might not like the meal. I assured him that everything was muy bueno, and left him a nice tip, so I hope he was reassured!

I wonder if there are any other quirky little restaurants hiding in odd corners of the city?

why is the rum gone?, how to speak spanish, 15 schnitzengruben is my limit, meat and three veg, crivens!
