DragonCon, Part I

I know, I was going to do a long monologue on my Dublin experience ... and I will! It's just that I'm here in Atlanta and I want to get my thoughts down before I forget anything.

OK, Hands Up anybody who has the slightest idea what DragonCon might be! I tend to stick mostly to the Writers' Track, the hard sciences (Space Track), and then attend music and movies after dark. This year I decided to do the "fan" thing and attend one of the movie-star Q&A sessions.

Why would I, a confirmed misanthrope, subject myself to a room full of screaming fangirls?? Two words: Oliver, James. I admit, I succumbed to the lure of 19-year-old eye candy with lovely Brit accents. I had more fun watching them try to understand the Yank audience's questions (and listening to the puzzled pauses as the audience tried to understand their accents in many places) than I did listening to the answers to questions like "what's your favorite colour?" and "did you have a crush on any of the actresses in the movies?" One question that floored the lads -- I'll admit, it floored most of the Yanks as well -- was "Would you rather eat Bigfoot or Nessie?" WHAT was that girl smoking before the session??!

An interesting story was the time they went to Universal Studios and decided to try out the Harry Potter Sorting Hat. Oliver was assigned to Gryffindor, natch -- but poor James ended up a Hufflepuff!

And for those who are wondering: yes, they do look nearly identical (I could tell them apart, but I doubt I could do it if I met just one of them in the hallway); yes, they really do finish each other's sentences; and yes, they communicated with eye contact and gestures before many of their replies. Twins ... loverly.

I'm still recuperating from my bout with mono, so I'm off to bed early. Saturday and Sunday nights are the big all-nighters at the con, and I plan to see Voltaire, the Great Luke Ski, the Masquerade Contest, Rocky Horror (Live), and the NeedCoffee.com Gonzo All-Night Movie Fest! Thank the gods I will have Tues off to recover!

dragoncon, reality interferes with my virtual life, velyr - wtf?, ginger twins - yum
