Another Trip Around the Sun
Well here we are again: another year has come and gone.
I am doing everything I can think of tonight short of sacrificing a virgin goat. We are driving 2020 out with a massive fireworks display. At the stroke of midnight, all the doors will be opened and the rooms symbolically swept clean. Sage smudging will begin. Champagne will be consumed throughout. Tomorrow we will eat black-eyed peas, collard greens, and cornbread (even though nobody likes collards). All we are lacking is a tall, dark-haired man to "first foot" into the house at 12am.
Here's to 2021 being far better to us than 2020 has been. I hope your new year is a happy and healthy one. I hope the vaccine works and the idiotic anti-vaxxers are quarantined until everyone else gets their shot (I figure 6 months quarantine should work). I hope the asteroids miss our planet and the super-volcanoes remain dormant for at least another 12 months. I hope our stories come out just the way we imagined them and that we find whatever creativity we lost in 2020. Here's to a new "normal" that doesn't see the 1% taking everything away from the rest of us and that sees the rest of us being kinder and more understanding to one another.
