I was just reading through some old stuff, and this reminded me of you Laura. So here you go : )
-----
Lamentation of Parking Lots
Brought up in scarlet embrace,
imbuing shades of rue and regret.
For the punishment of Sodom, overthrown,
(falling shrieking, brimstone coal)
in briefest of glances, I am shunned.
Their visage, blacker than the deepest,
darkest secret of the inhabitants
of Hell--it pales me to a sickening shade,
reminiscent of pearl (beyond price).
The skin cleaves to their bones, their
children serve as the main meal.
Oh, mine eyes, mine eyes do fail
with bitter, cold tears for the
lamentation of my rebellious people.
Is it nothing to you? Oh, ye, all who
pass me by? (Mock not our solitary city--cry.)
Yet shall I recall, though the joy
turn to mourning and dancing to
wailing, our Lord hath not forgotten
His great graciousness us toward.
I fail, I fail, I fail, I fail, I fail, I fail…
my sin of perfectionism erodes me.
And still, though it seems like all is lost and I
am utterly condemned, I see the dimmest
of all lights, his heart beating, pulsing--welcoming.
Be swifter than the eagles, more cunning
than the hunters, oh Master, my Redeemer.
For you alone are Worthy of all my laughing sorrow
(like Sarah for Isaac and Rachel for Jerusalem, I pray).
Plead my cause, and wipe my tears away
painting rainbows in the puddles covering
the empty parking lots of my Sodom and Mount Sinai.
