Name: Blair
Age: 19 (16 in BW)
Hometown/Region: Nuvema Town/Unova
Class: Trainer
Team:

Serperior♂, Zebstrika♀, Beartic♂, Sigilyph♂, Seismitoad♂, Krookodile♂

History:
Born in the small Nuvema Town, Blair always had great aspirations to become a Pokemon Trainer. This could be largely attributed to the fact that his mother was a great Pokemon Trainer back in the day, always recalling her adventures and sharing them with Blair, readying him for the day he would become a Pokemon Trainer himself. On top of that, Blair was also glued to TV shows and books that focused all on Pokemon. This caused him to fantasize of his future endeavors with Pokemon, wondering what kind of team he would end up building and the friends he would make upon setting off on his own Pokemon journey. His mother was highly supportive of this, and often brought him around Unova to get a taste of what his adventure may be like someday.

More importantly, the hugest influence of Blair's childhood would be the friends he made in Nuvema Town. Their names were Cheren and Bianca, who both aspired to become trainers someday as well. Although they all had their own personalities and opposing outlooks on different subjects, they managed to get along very well, often sharing their dreams and ideas about Pokemon, among other things. Their differences are what made their friendship so powerful. He definitely couldn't wait to set out on his journey together with his friends, whether they be companions or rivals. Either way, their bonds were strong.

Then, the day Blair had awaited for had finally come. The professor who had resided in their town, Professor Juniper, decided to send the pack of friends their starter Pokemon on the day they were ready. Blair knew from the moment he met Snivy's eyes that they would be companions for a long journey ahead of them, and that much was settled. After that (but not before the trio utterly destroyed Blair's room with their first Pokemon battles), they were all given their Pokedexes at Professor Juniper's lab and urged on to go on their very own journey through Unova. Of course, Blair wasn't one to argue against it. Although he would miss his town and his mother very dearly, it was time to take his first step outside of Nuvema Town as a Pokemon Trainer, right alongside his best friends.

Not long after Blair started catching a few Pokemon to begin working on filling his Pokedex did Blair and Cheren encounter a shady group of people upon arriving to Accumula Town. They spoke words of Pokemon liberation, where they wished to separate Pokemon and humans so that Pokemon would be happy, not abused. They tried to convince the people to let their Pokemon free, but they were only met with confusion and people questioning their own morals. Was keeping Pokemon really okay? Blair himself knew that it was just preposterous. Pokemon loved working together with humans, and vice versa. He and Snivy already made each other very happy... Which was apparently rather evident to a strange man in the crowd, who claimed he could hear the voices of Blair's Pokemon. The man was called N, who challenged Blair to a battle to test his resolve. He won, and N disappeared, muttering that the world must be changed. Blair didn't know what to think of this N guy, but he shrugged it off. The very idea of Pokemon liberation just didn't hold any water.

Coming up was Striaton City's gym challenge, where Blair could nab his first badge. Challenging all of Unova's gyms was something Blair had always dreamed of doing, and it wasn't something he was planning on skipping out on. On top of collecting all of the badges, he would slowly begin to polish his skills as a Pokemon Trainer and become stronger as well as more experienced. He understood that this clashed with Cheren's ultimate goal of becoming Unova's Champion, but Blair accepted the rivalry of his friend, prepared to test out who is the stronger of the two head on. As it turned out, he managed to defeat Chili a little easily, grabbing his first badge and heading out. On the way, he met a college friend of Professor Juniper's by the name of Fennel, who asked him to collect some of Musharna's dream smoke so that she could begin studying the dream world. He accepted, and headed out to the dreamyard in order to complete his task. It's there that he ran into Bianca, and together the two found a couple of Team Plasma members beating up a Munna in order to get its dream smoke. It was absolutely not acceptable, so Blair defeated them in a couple of Pokemon battles. He and Bianca then rescued Munna and Musharna. This particular event is important because it exposed Blair to the way Team Plasma really works - selfishly. For a pack of people who were determined to protect Pokemon, they sure liked to hurt them. After that, he returned to Fennel and received his C-Gear.

Team Plasma's shenanigans didn't end there, unfortunately. Blair managed to get caught up in all sorts of different trouble they'd caused, mostly from stealing Pokemon in order to separate them from their trainers. He teamed up with Lenora and Burgh (as well as received their badges) to catch up with them and undo the mess they've made, whether it was retrieving a stolen Pokemon or a stolen artifact. Blair also encountered N once again as well, who asked Blair if he wanted to understand the truth of what a trainer should be. Blair said yes - because he wanted to be the best trainer he could be, naturally. They battled once again, resulting in Blair's victory. N claimed he is not yet at the level he wants to acheive and leaves... But not before revealing his plans to befriend the great dragon Pokemon, Zekrom. Blair was left stunned and curious about what this N guy had planned.

The events of Nimbasa City are significant as well. With Bianca and her father finally facing each other after Bianca had set off for her journey despite his disapproval, her father finally asked Blair to take care of her in his place. Blair accepted, and mulled over what's close to him in his heart, and what he'd like to protect. His friends, family, Pokemon - the world. Shortly after that was yet another encounter with the mysterious N, who invited Blair to ride Nimbasa's famous Ferris wheel with him. Intrigued, he played along and accepted the invitation. It was then that N revealed that he is Team Plasma's king, surprising Blair a little, but when he thought about it, it made sense. Team Plasma's goals were more or less the same as N's, but there was a difference. Those Team Plasma guys would resort to dirty, less-than-humane methods to get what they wanted. N, on the other hand? There was something genuine about the guy that really spoke to Blair, that he really wanted to protect Pokemon.

When they left the Ferris wheel, Plasma grunts approached the two. N asked Blair if he had a dream. Blair answered yes. He dreamed to protect this world he loves as much as he could. They battled yet again to see if Blair was serious about those dreams (and for N to protect his grunts), and Blair won thanks to the powerful bonds he'd forged between himself and his Pokemon. N even noted how happy his Pokemon seemed during the battle, truly leaving an impression on him. It was then that it was truly grounded that N and Blair were opponents; There was N, who wished to liberate Pokemon from all trainers, and Blair, who wished to be together with Pokemon. N challenged Blair to collect every badge and come to Unova's Pokemon League, where Blair could stop N from achieving his goals for good. Otherwise, there'd no hope, and he really would be separated from his companions for good... Blair took up the challenge and swore to accomplish his goal of reaching the League and defeating N, as well as protecting the bonds between humans and Pokemon. After that was grabbing Elesa's badge and indulging Cheren in yet another battle to test their strength.

Another important moment during Blair's journey was his meeting with the region's Champion, Alder, who raised questions over what it "meant" to be Champion. He claimed that we all have different ideas, and that they were all acceptable depending on how you were to look at them. So what did it mean to be Champion? To Blair, it meant protecting everyone through the bonds you have with your Pokemon. Cheren on the other hand seemed to think differently, saying that being Champion means being the strongest. It's clear that his and Cheren's ideals differed greatly, but that didn't stop the two from being good friends.

Eventually, Blair made his way to Chargestone Cave past Driftveil City where he once again ran into his opponent, N, as well as learned of the Shadow Triad that led him to him. N asked Blair if he found it surprising that N had 'chosen' him, and Blair answered with a no. Although he truly didn't expect to get caught up in such a crazy plot, he truly believed that he had strong enough bonds with his Pokemon to be considered N's chosen opponent. N also asked Blair if he shared his dream, to which he answered yes - Blair also wished for Pokemon to be happy, but not by using Team Plasma's methods of liberation. In the end, all of their efforts were for the good of the Pokemon, weren't they? As they battled then once again, Blair was able to catch a glimpse of N's resolve slowly breaking. Were Pokemon really happy this way? To Blair, it seemed that N had always viewed the human-Pokemon partnership negatively, for some reason... One that he just didn't understand yet. He really wanted to find out why that was - he had never met anyone who thought like N before. Maybe he would find out soon enough.

N and Blair had yet another encounter after Blair managed to snag Skyla's badge from the Mistralton City gym. This time around, N requested to speak with Blair's Zebstrika, a Pokemon that he caught early on in his journey. N remarked how splendid it is that Blair's Pokemon seem to believe in him, and Blair responded with a confident look - of course Zebstrika would think so. They were friends and partners, weren't they? N noticed how close the two were, and appeared genuinely troubled, saying that if all people were like Blair, he wouldn't have to separate Pokemon from people. He even goes as far as to say that the thought "breaks his heart a little". It was then that Blair began to understand N a little better. Despite being Team Plasma's leader, he wished to change the world without force so that Pokemon wouldn't get hurt by it. As N walked away from him, Blair just continued to wonder about N. There was still so much that he didn't understand about the guy.

Upon arriving to Icirrus City, the Shadow Triad appeared once again and revealed that Ghetsis had a message for him at Dragonspiral Tower. Along with Icirrus's Gym Leader, Brycen, as well as Bianca and Cheren, they all headed over to investigate. Upon reaching the top of the tower, Blair saw that Zekrom had managed to show himself to whom he believes to be the hero that will guide the world - N. Looks like the guy was really serious about summoning the legendary dragon after all. He revealed that he planned to head to the League in order to surpass the Champion and then put an end to all Pokemon battles. In order for Blair to stop him, he would have to seek Reshiram with the light stone, in order to challenge N as one who walks with Pokemon and earns their trust.

Finally, Blair was able to receive the light stone thanks to Lenora. But before he took it, he was asked by Alder if he is prepared to fight N in the case where Alder is defeated. Without hesitation, Blair answered yes, expressing how eager he is to protect the bonds between people and Pokemon. And with that, he was given the light stone, ready to protect his world. After that, Blair continued back to Opelucid City, where he was ready to fight the final Gym Leader, Drayden, as well as learn more about the legendary dragon Pokemon from him. On top of that, he and Iris also taught Blair about the twin heroes with two different ideals about about the world - one seeking truth, the other seeking ideals. It really did feel like he and N were like those two heroes. There was N, who sought the ideal world where Pokemon and humans lived separately, and Blair, who sought the truth that Pokemon live happily with people. It almost felt like the upcoming showdown between himself and N was the work of fate. After that, Blair challenged Drayden for his badge and won, making his way to the Pokemon League where he would meet N again.

On the way, Cheren challenged Blair to one more match and lost yet again. ("You're truly amazing, you know that?"). The two also met up with Bianca, and the trio was reunited once again. Together, they all reflected on their journey and all showed how much they had learned, how much they had grown. Everybody is different, with all sorts of different ideals and truths to them. Put together, they make up the world. Understanding this, the two cheered Blair on, with Cheren offering to do his best to help Blair. Blair grinned at him before setting off.

At the League, Blair fought his way through Shauntal, Grimsley, Caitlin, and Marshal, becoming the strongest trainer in the Pokemon League. He was encouraged by the Elite Four to hurry and reach the Champion, because something important was coming underway. Blair didn't hesitate and did just that. However, when Blair arrived, it was too late - N and Zekrom had managed to defeat Alder. N was close to his goals, but he wasn't there quite yet - especially not with Blair's Light Stone reacting to Zekrom. N stated that this place wasn't appropriate for the dragon's duel, and summoned Team Plasma's castle, built conveniently surrounding the league. It shocked Blair, who clearly wasn't expecting something so intense to happen. N disappeared into the castle before Blair could even fully process the whole situation, and Cheren caught up, claiming that he too had beaten the League. Alder then told Blair to talk to N, and to get it through his head that people grow stronger by being with Pokemon, and vice-versa. Blair swore that he would put his soul into it.

Thanks to Unova's Gym Leaders banding together to take on the Seven Sages that had initially stopped Blair upon entering N's castle, he was able to continue on through the castle. It's there that he met Anthea and Concordia, who are goddesses of Team Plasma and very familiar with N. Thanks to them, Touya finally learned a little about N's past, that he was sheltered from the world and was only shown abused Pokemon. The truth was that N had a pure and innocent heart, just as Blair suspected. Still, it was just - wrong. How could someone be raised so sheltered like that? It just wasn't fair to N, and it made Blair angry to think that someone could do something so cruel to another person for the entirety of their life.

Before finally meeting with N was one last stop, though: N's room. A place he was urged to enter by a member of the Shadow Triad. Something that was spoken by said member was something that Blair probably would never forget:

"I don't feel anything when I go in there, but maybe you will."

The room was filled with nothing but toys. A toy train track, a basketball hoop and several other things here and there. Very colorful. It was very clearly the room of a child. But this room had also been N's world. The Shadow Triad member was right, and a flurry of emotions ran through Blair then - shock, disgust at the person who did this to N, followed by anger, and then sadness. It was just... too sad, too cruel. Slowly, the pieces were starting to come into place. N didn't know anything about this world. Blair gained another thing to fight for in that moment.

It was time to face N in a final showdown, between two heroes that represented truth and ideals. At the top of N's castle waited N himself, where N claimed that his beliefs would prevail. Blair believed that his beliefs too would prevail, and moreso strongly than N's, but Reshiram had yet to show itself. N admitted that he began to take a liking to Blair, and that he truly believed that Reshiram would appear before Blair, and was thusly disappointed that Reshiram had not arrived. Upon calling Zekrom, though, Blair's Light Stone finally moved. It floated out, before Reshiram finally appeared before Blair. N urged Blair to catch Reshiram and befriend him. Reshiram managed to recognize Blair's strong convictions and allowed Blair to capture him. It was then that he and N had their fated duel, using their ultimate teams against each other as well as having Zekrom and Reshiram face off like in the legend.

In the end, Blair's desire to protect the world ultimately won out, and N was defeated. Enraged at his son's failure to defeat Blair, Ghetsis revealed his true intentions to keep all Pokemon for himself in order to rule the world. Ghetsis refused to be stopped, so he battled Blair in order to take him down as quickly as possible. But as the story always goes, good triumphs over evil, and Blair managed to defeat Ghetsis thanks to the powerful bonds between himself and his Pokemon, a representation of everything that he had been working to hard to protect throughout his entire journey.

After Ghetsis's defeat, Ghetsis went on about how he had only raised N to be the hero that would summon Zekrom someday, and kept his heart pure - just for that. He even went as far as to call his own son "a freak who knows nothing but Pokemon". Blair struggled to keep in his rage at those words. The only freak here was Ghetsis, as far as he was concerned. Luckily, with Cheren and Alder having caught up, they take Ghetsis away to arrest him.

Blair and N shared a final moment together then. N revealed then how shocked he was when he first met Blair in Accumula Town, how his Pokemon seemed to be so... happy. Blair remembered that N only knew hurt and abused Pokemon in his life, and understood. Feeling overwhelmed from all the emotion - from N's awful past revealed to him, and how Ghetsis said those terrible things to him just now - he struggled to keep the tears in. N then went on about how his feelings began to sway from that moment on, and that's why he couldn't become victorious. The truth was, he felt all muddled inside about the beliefs he had once taken so seriously after meeting Blair. It just went to show how strong of an influence Blair has on the people around him, but especially someone with such a vulnerable mind like N. Letting Zekrom out of its PokeBall, N urged Blair on to realize his dreams, that he had the power to change the world. And with that, N hopped onto Zekrom's back and flew off into the sky.

Thank you, N, Blair thought to himself, with a warm smile and teary eyes. I'll work hard to make my dreams come true. Some day, you'll see.

Blair returned home to Nuvema Town after that. After all, he was exhausted, and missed his mother dearly. He smiled when he saw that his room was kept all clean and tidy, so unlike the last time he had seen it... and collapsed onto the bed, falling into a deep sleep. The next morning, there was a man named Looker in their home, who had heard of Blair's adventures. He claimed that the Seven Sages were still lurking around Unova, and that Blair should probably find them before they band together again. As a mission to help keep Unova safe, another step towards his dream, Blair accepted, setting out to achieve his goal of finding the Seven Sages. As well as fulfilling the goals of his quest, Blair continued to explore new places of the region he had never been to before, such as Undella Town and Lacunosa Town. He managed to locate the Seven Sages, as well as level up his Pokemon so that he was strong enough to fight the Elite Four for real now. He defeated them, as well as Alder, and was entered into the Hall of Fame, written into history as a powerful trainer with Pokemon of true strength of heart and kindness.

After that? Well, Blair stayed in Unova, continuing to travel around the region in order to keep it as safe as he could, now that he was Unova's Champion. He felt it was his duty to uphold as Champion, and he was living the dream that he and N had discussed back then. And speaking of back then, not a day went by that Blair didn't think those days, where he was pursuing Team Plasma and N, all while trying to protect his own ideals. Those things were now safe and sound, and Blair was an active part of that. The thought truly brought peace to him. He hoped that N would come see it someday... Blair also discovered a secret fondness and slightly guilty pleasure for entering his Pokemon in the musicals at Nimbasa City; particularly Krookodile, who was able to fabulously pull off a look with a top hat and cane. Although battling and training was still his top priority, a part of him just couldn't avoid the appeal of watching the cute Pokemon bounce around and dance with costumes on. It's not something he cared to talk about often, though, since it probably wasn't very cool.

Aside from that, he also managed to travel to a couple of other regions in order to work on his Pokedex; primarily Kanto and Johto (where he found himself really enjoying the Pokeathalons), since the two were closely connected. He even managed to finally see an actual Pikachu! He had read about the contests that took place primarily in Hoenn and Sinnoh and found himself intrigued - something he would have to check out another time. Until then, though, he eventually returned back to Unova to say hello to his mother as well as the rest of his friends.

Personality:
Blair is a young and curious boy with a big heart and an eye for adventure. Since nurturing his love for Pokemon ever since he was a kid thanks to his mother, it could be said that Pokemon is Blair's greatest passion in life, as he's shown time and time again to have an incredibly powerful bond with his Pokemon - to the point where it's noted and remarked by several other people. His relationship with Pokemon proves to be a great advantage in battle, as his Pokemon place utter faith in Blair and vice versa. He's eager to explore the world around him and to learn even more about Pokemon, which is why he was so happy to receive the Pokedex from Professor Juniper. However, he doesn't think that Pokemon are all about stats and type advantages, as well as simply just strong Pokemon or weak Pokemon - it's all about the way you believe in them, be them weak or strong, Adamant or Timid. The Pokedex certainly helps him learn a lot about Pokemon, but he doesn't take it objectively. At his core, he's just a friendly kid who's able to get along with just about anyone he meets, as well as perceptive - for example, when N begins to pose a threat, Blair doesn't see him as a bad person. He was able to pick up that there was a kind motive behind his acts; he just didn't understand N yet.

Blair is definitely a leader. Even if he doesn't fully understand the weight of a situation, he'll step in and fight for what he believes in, even if the odds are against him. He has a lot of faith in his friends and his Pokemon and knows that no matter what, he won't be let down. He's always thinking positively, often about other people. Although he has enough faith in his own abilities, hence traveling alone for the most part (save for his Pokemon, of course), he's always more than happy to have his friends help. Every person has different perspectives on the world, so combining everyone's input in a way that works for everyone can only work in their favor, he thinks. This is actually a bit of a contrast to Cheren, because Blair is okay with admitting when he's wrong, and is open to other people's interpretations and beliefs. Teamwork is a very important thing to him! It's part of why he treasures the bond between humans and Pokemon so deeply, and why he considered Team Plasma's motives to be silly. Pokemon were happiest when they helped people and vice-versa, weren't they? Blair was positive that separating them would only sadden them, and those views wouldn't waver. He stands by his own convictions to the very end.

Quite some time has passed since the beginning of Blair's journey, though. Though he is more or less generally the same, he has certainly matured, too. Not only has he learned more about Pokemon, but the people around him, too. Before leaving for his journey, Blair had never been explicitly exposed to people who use Pokemon for wrong and selfish means. Outside of villains in TV dramas and books, maybe. Now that he's seen the possible evils in the world, he works harder than ever to protect them. He's also slightly more reserved than before, which means less barging into places he's not even sure he's allowed to be in just for the sake of exploring a little. He acts on instinct often, but he tries to tone it down a little if he's being too rash. Something important to remember to him is to keep a calm head in order to properly assess a situation before charging forward. Of course, sometimes it just can't be helped.

Aside from maturing a bit, he's discovered a slightly embarrassing (or massively embarrassment) thing for Pokemon musicals. He just can't resist watching Pokemon perform those cute little dances. It's not something he talks about very often, however, since he's sure he would be made fun of. He can try to make himself come off as a little cooler than he actually is. (All of his coolest moments happen when he's not even trying, anyway.)

All in all, putting the whole guy-who-saved-Unova bit aside, he's really just a regular guy from a small town who highly values his bonds with his friends, and with his Pokemon.

Sample I:
( a voice message to red )

[ The PNG flickers on to reveal a Blair, who's actually quite excited at the prospect of talking to a guy like Red. At least it manages to hide the nerves; after what he's heard, Blair's got a hell of a lot of respect for the guy. ]

Hey, are you Red? The name's Blair, from Nuvema Town! [ A sheepish smile, and Blair scratches at his cheek a little. ] Um, in Unova! Speaking of that place, I'm... kind of the Champion over there. You're Kanto's Champion, right? And the guy who single-handedly brought down that Team Rocket organization that was using Pokemon for their own selfish deeds? I've read all about you in books and stuff... I think it's all really incredible.

[ He's probably starting to look like more of a fanboy than an actual Champion, huh. Alright, it was time to regain his composure a little. ]

I was just wondering, since you've been in the whole Champion business for way longer than I have - think you could give me a few pointers or something? [ Preferably something that didn't involve isolating himself in a mountain for several years - he liked being around his friends. ] I'll probably lose if we battle, but I think it'd make for some great training! What do you say, Champion Red?

[ Blair grins and tips the brim of his hat a little, before turning off the feed. ]

Sample II:
( a pokemon, wild, or tamed, or one of your own, has a crush on you and refuses to leave you alone )

It was bad luck that Blair had just so happened to send out his only female Pokemon, Zebstrika, to fight this pesky Swoobat that also just so happened to use an Attract move on her. He probably should have sent out Krookodile instead, he thinks, so that his dark moves would have instantly took down Swoobat, and so that Attract would have been ineffective. Luckily enough, despite the use of the skill, Zebstrika was easily able to defeat Swoobat, resulting in Blair's victory. Attract should immediately be canceled, in that case.

"Way to go!" Blair cheered, "Even though Swoobat used that move, you were still able to take him down quick. You've gotten so strong, girl!" He walked over to offer Zebstrika a berry and a pat on the head, but something strange happened when Zebstrika turned to look at him.

She had hearts in her eyes.

"Um," Blair laughed nervously, waving his hands around a little. "Didn't we defeat Swoobat? So you can snap out of it now..."

But Zebstrika's expression didn't falter, her heart-shaped eyes following Blair like a lovestruck puppy. No... like a lovestruck Zebstrika, because she really was in love. With Blair.

So, Zebstrika's in love with me?! How weird... I've never even heard of that! I'm gonna check the PokeDex... Blair whipped out his PokeDex from his bag (but not without Zebstrika watching him the entire time with a dreamy expression) in order to look up some facts about the skill. Even when checking a more in-depth description of the move, he couldn't find a single thing that mentioned any kind of malfunction where the object of the effected Pokemon's affection moved from one target to another. I guess that's why Professor Juniper's always researching and working on updating these things. Blair could almost laugh. N was right - these things really aren't perfect. But now what?

"Alright, Zebstrika, it's time to get back in your PokeBall. We're going to the nearby center," Blair warned, grabbing the ball from his belt in order to call her back in, but it was no use. With her tail, she knocked the PokeBall straight out of his hands and tackled Blair to the ground, causing him to land on his butt. He was rubbing his aching backside when Zebstrika decided to affectionately nuzzle him - she didn't want to go back in the ball just yet. She wanted to stay out here with Blair. He had been able to figure out that much. "Okay, okay," he laughed, because it tickled. "If I walk with you to the Pokemon Center, will you go in your ball when we get there?"

There was a snort and a nod in return. Fair enough.

"Okay, deal." Blair smiled and finally sat up, thinking that she might prefer to walk by him instead of having him ride on her back. And he was right - she was content that way, and followed his orders to return back to her PokeBall when they reached the Pokemon Center. After a quick heal up, she was back to normal.

Phew.
