History: Seamus was born of an Irish Catholic father, Aidan O'Riley, and a young, pretty, protestant woman, Jenny Hastings. She had given up her family, her money, and her faith in order to marry the quite charming and lovely O'Riley. Gossip had it, as family's imbued with old money tend to chatter like old hens, that Jenny was pregnant when she was married in the big catholic church. Others say she was always a little off her rocker.

Regardless, some months later Marge was born, Seamus' older sister. Marge was a beautiful little girl. Five years later Jenny was pregnant again, and stuck in a rocky relationship with a husband who was faithful to one thing - Drink.
After a series of financial falling throughs and hard times, Aidan turned to booze to numb out the wrinkles in his 'perfect' life. Often times their money was spent on drink and drink alone. More oft than not, Jenny had to work as well, leaving young Marge to care for baby Seamus. Not only was this dynamic straining and unhealthy on everyone involved, Aidan turned into a violent drunk father fast.

When Marge was 10 and Seamus 5, Jenny became deathly ill. She suffered through the bitter winter on what seemed like sheer will alone, and expired in April of the following year. Seamus and Marge were left alone with a father who was sober only long enough to remember the blackness his life had taken, and to get more drink.

However, Jenny's death awoke a more paternal side of Aidan and he tried to do better for the little ones. Marge exited school and was able to procure a job as a stripper. Her decision to 'sell her body' left a deep riff between Aidan and his daughter. Still under the thumb of Aidan, Seamus was cut off from his sister. Aidan quickly returned to his world of drink and became violent once more. Seamus tried to hide the bruises, from a mix of shame and fear, but eventually was removed from the home and placed in foster care.

Despite the harsh upbringing, peppered with insults from his class and parents, Seamus came out to be a rather optimistic lad. He felt that the worse had been dealt to him, and things could only look up. That was the hope that kept him sustained as he jumped from household to household, trying to stay afloat in a mixed up world.

During his Sophmore year, craving a sense of stability, he applied for a scholarship at the highschool. Along with it he attached a small book of poems he had been writing as well as some prose excerpts. Seamus was accepted and allowed to live in the dorm. Being a 'Charity Case' was not easy, but he never let it get him down. Finding that he had a new sense of freedom, he began to work on his poetry and prose more often and also joined the fencing team and Choir. There he learned how to fence and became very apt at it. In Choir he became one of the lead tenor-altos.

Junior year he was accepted in again, this time because of the fencing team. He became one of the upper members of the team and very well known in the school for his skills and generosity. Despite that, some still look down their nose at him fro earning his way through scholarship.

As the scholarship only covers his tuition for the school, his uniforms, dorm costs, and a few school supplies, Seamus has had to work various part time jobs in order to feed himself and stay afloat. Since Sophmore year he has been working at a local deli as a chef. The job is good, and he enjoys the work, but it's unsure whether it will stay open in the floundering economy. Such worries have taxed him, but still the boy stays very optomistic that things will turn out for the best.
