Anybody else use google analytics to track their webpage activity? I started a few months back and periodically go and check it. I'm always slightly amazed to find that anybody goes to my website at all. In the past month, I've had 51 unique visitors. One of them is me... I presume more than a few of the 'unique' visitors are people browsing from different computers, but still... I'm probably averaging a different person every day looking at my webpages.
Despite the subject line, it's not exactly high celebrity, and I'm sure it pales beside a lot of other personal webpages, but I didn't really expect anybody to be going to my site most days.
Of course, most referrals are from search engines, which means there's a high likelihood that people visit, decide I'm not what they're looking for and click away again. I note that the most popular keywords this month were "Springer and Arcee", which is kind of gratifying since I probably do meet the demand there. The person googling "Daniel Arcee hentai" however, was most likely sorely disappointed.
I, of course, had to google "Daniel Arcee hentai" myself after that. My site does indeed get the top result, although I'm not sure I mention the word hentai anywhere (I suppose this blog entry will be the new top result). And, just for the record, none of my fics feature Daniel and Arcee getting it on.
One thing I have noticed, every time I've checked google analytics, the top keyword searches include "mine is not to reason why" or some variation of that quote. It's the title of my first fic. I suspect that most people click on and off again fairly quickly (actually, I'm not sure why they'd need to click on at all, since it must be pretty obvious it's not what they're looking for, but plainly they do...). Still, if anybody wants recommendations on improving their web traffic, title a fic after a well known quote and the hits will flow!
