The dangers of living on a mountain.

So yesterday at about 1:00 pm we were just minding our own business when the power went out. Damn! It's hot, and no fan....also Hank lost about four hours of work...anyway, we were not happy. Hank called the power co. and asked what was up. He was told someone hit a pole and that there was someone going out to fix it right away...it would be about an hour. Fine, we can live with that. So, with a follow up call, we learn that the accident is worse than Edison had thought and we won't have power until 5:00pm at best. Hmmmm... Crap So we go to take Jason to work, and on the way back we find out that it was a guy driving a Lowe's delivery truck, and he lost his brakes, as he was coming up to a really bad curve on a cliff near the bottom of the mountain. He couldn't stop or make the curve, so he plunged 300 feet down the side of the mountain, taking three power poles with him. He had to be lifted out by helicopter. That poor guy! I can't imagine how terrified he must have been. I hope he'll be okay.

Well, actually I can sort of imagine it...about a month ago Hank, Jason and I were coming down the mountain, and we lost our brakes at that very same spot...luckily Hank has a stick shift and the jeep isn't that big so he was able to downshif and make the curve. We made it to a stop on the straight away, and then went to the store filled the thing up with brake fluid, and had the brakes fixed the next day. It was terrifying, let me tell you! So it must have been about 100 times worse for the Lowe's truck driver.
