Attack of the Incompetent Vampires
Part III
I never posted about the first two instances this week, but most of you I've told about it. For those I haven't, I get blood drawn every six weeks for liver and kidney function because of some of the meds i'm on. i also have itsy-bitsy veins that like to run away. not a good combonation. on wednesday i got blood draw, and it went really bad, stinging turning to burning, two technicians working on getting the blood drawn, poking the eedle around inside my arm because the blood kept stopping flowing. afterwards i'm supposed to take the bandage off in ten minutes, except that at 20, 30, and 45 minutes later, still starts bleeding whenever i eek under the bandage. no good. i call the lab, the doctor that ordered the lab, and my pcp, but don't get a response for an hour and a half by which time it stops, and they say "well it's stopped, so, it's probably fine." ooooooooooook.
friday i go to the doctor that orders the test and find out that the blood clotted in the tube, and they couldn't test it. so they try again in 2 other veins, but to no avail.
tonight, i was carrying a landry basket when all of a sudden there is a stabbing pain in my arm where the blood was drawn initially. i take off my fleece to look at it, and right where it hurst, just above the main bruise where they drew the blood, there's another smaller bruise, that i'm not sure i've seen before. i look at it a few minutes later, and i notice brusing in sraight lines away from the bruise, following the vein. again, i don't remember it being there before, but i couldn't swear it wasn't either. *thinks*
as before i'm not sure if this is really a problem or not. so, now, i'm waiting for the "triage-nurse"
from my doctor's office to call me, to tell me if i should really be concerned. *sigh*
ETA:the nurse thinks i need to talk to the doctor on call, so now i get to wait for another half hour. uhg.
ETA 2: the doctor thinks it will be fine, that all of the poking around made weak spots in the vein, and by carrying a laundry basket *rolls eyes* i reinjured it and i started bleeding again for a few minutes. but he said to come in tomorrow if it's still bothering me. oy.
