Whovian Ramblings: The Girl Who Waited....to Watch S5
I first saw Eleven in the Weeping Angels two-parter in s5. I liked him, I didn't particularly like Amy but I didn't have strong feelings on her one way or another, I liked Iain Glen's character (I always love his characters) and I fucking loved River Song. (I still fucking love River Song.)
I'll let you in on a secret I've been carrying around: I've not actually watched much of s5. In fact, I didn't watch all of s4, either, and didn't watch the DT Specials until the end of last semester. I haven't watched a series all the way through since s3 and this one now. So, of s5, I'd only seen the two-parter, Van Gogh, Vampires in Venice and The Hungry Earth (is that the title?). Oh, and Amy's Choice which...I don't know, I didn't really like? I wasn't really connected with the characters, so the story didn't mean that much to me.
But basically, I started in the middle of the book and wasn't too drawn in by it, so I set it down and didn't open it again till the next in the series came out. (And let's face it, I really only watched Impossible Astronaut because of River and Mark Sheppard.)
Danes and I just watched The Eleventh Hour last night and I can't believe I didn't start with it. I love baby!Amy, I actually like grown-up Amy (??) (and her crush on the Doctor now makes so much more sense; I still have issues with that storyline, but that's for another time), I adore Rory and....Eleven.
I have friends on tumblr who like Eleven, who don't like Eleven, and a couple for whom he is their (new) Doctor. (One, especially, started with Four, but considers Eleven her Doctor from this new series.) I didn't have any strong feelings for him one way or another, but he was goofy and silly and had no eyebrows and I liked him. This season, I've started to really like him, and going back to watch Eleventh Hour makes me really, really like him a lot.
So, uh, basically this is me saying I should've trusted you guys and watched it from the beginning, because it's a different feel than, say, Vampires in Venice (which I really really did not like). Also, I like Eleven a lot more than I thought I would.
