Miniseries Pimp: The Lost Room

Okay, the Sci-Fi channel has been putting out a lot of real dogs for original movies lately. Rubbersuit monsters and the like. However, every once in a while they get it right. And this once they got it damn near perfect.

The Lost Room is a great show. One of the best I've watched so far. I've only seen 2/3rds of it (it's a 3 part miniseries) but so far they have built up intriguing universe, with competeing cabals, quazi-religious fanatics, unlikely mobsters, and a likable protagonist, who for once has an IRON CLAD motivation to do everything he does. It's internally consistant in a way that makes me squee. And the whole idea behind the Lost Room is fascinating.

So far I don't know what happened in that motel room on Rte 66 back in 1961, but whatever it was, was enough to rip it out of exisance. Not just distroy it, but erase that it was ever there. And yet it still exists, along with all its contents, each of which may, or may not, contain a peice of God. The peices do strange things. Sometimes useful, sometimes not. The Watch hard-boils eggs. That's all it does. The Watch Case stops entropy. Put different objects together and they develop new properties. The Watch and the Knife gives the holder a kind of telepathy. The Key and the Watch Case will tear holes in the universe. The owners of the objects are all remarkably ordinary, not particularly young, or smart, or ruthless. But the objects seem to exert a kind of control over their minds over time, and drive them to risk themselves in an attempt to collect more objects and to hold on to the ones they have.

When this comes out on DVD, I'm soooo buying it.
