I survived the con...
Well, whoa... my stress level has gone from through the roof to comfortably lounging on the rug reading a doujin and drinking a diet soda. I didn't know how much I really needed a break from the kids. I thought I'd miss them more, but you know what, I hardly even thought about them. It felt sooooooooo good to be my own person. Any way, the kids are decidedly OFF the menu, even though they are still making the same demands they were before I went on this trip.
Speaking of doujin, I bought some. I really didn't think I would... but I did. In fact, I might as well have taken my husband's last pay check and handed it over to doujin sellers. Thank goodness I'm not going to another con for a while and I don't trust Ebay. Anyway, one thing I was disappointed at (besides my apparent total lack of restraint when it comes to pulling out the plastic) was the lack of selections in pairings. It was all FREAKING roy ed. Hardly even any elricest! Well at least at one seller's. Thank goodness I ran into
Cryogenia who pointed me out another one who not only had rarer pairings (though honestly not THAT rare) but also had them for like 5-10 bucks each. Anyway, I got jipped on one or two of them, but for the most sake I'm happy with what I got. Sadly though, she got all of the genderswitched ones before I could get there. However, I got a bunch of Havoc x Roy and Roy x Hughes, and I can be happy with that (though honestly not as happy as I would have been if I could have just found a Gate/Scar or whatever. Dang it? Why doesn't the world see the love that is a rare pairing?)
Anyway, I'm going to be scanning them and uploading them as the whim takes me.
I don't know if I bothered to mention this outside the CoE, but I did decide to send in PAWNS as an entry in the Con's fanfic contest. And surprisingly enough it won. Well, maybe not too surprising, because I honestly don't think it had a lot of competion for the catagory (it was under novel). Still, Wee! I actually won something in a contest. I think this is a first. I got a rather nice notebook as a prize.
Anyway, I actually didn't go to very many events... I spent most of the time smoozing with people from LJ.
I really had a blast hanging with
cryogenia and
azremodehar We spent literally hours together, hopefully they didn't get sick of seeing my face. Anyway, we spent a lot of the time laughing ourselves sick over doujin while at the same time trying NOT to show off our purchases to the largely underaged crowd around us.
We cruised the dealer's room a couple of times, where
Cryogeniademonstrated her supernatural ability to do anime-style mid-air flips to an appreciative audience. She was given a prize for her performance and everyone learned a valuable lesson -- that the middle of the busy, crowded isle, right behind people who are busy looking at goods, is probably not the best place to lie down on the floor.
Azy also taught me a valuable lesson in what not to use to keep your stockings, and just how much cosplayers are willing to suffer for their craft. I know that sweat and tears go into outfits, but I hadn't realized just how much blood was required as well. Let's say the words brazillian wax and OMFG OW were uttered repeatedly by me. Somehow despite this she made cosplaying look like a hell of a lot of fun. Maybe I'll try it for next con... if I can get off my lazy ass...
We stayed up late and went to the fanfic reading, which was an amazing experience. First of all, badfic is fun when you read it on line, but it takes a whole new level of life when it's read by someone who is possibly drunk. Cryo, Azy and I were polite enough to keep our snarks to a sheet of paper that we passed around like school girls in the back of math class. I discovered the joy of breaking people's brains in person, by reading CANON RAPE to a live audience. It was a stunning performance... literally.
But
cryogenia really stole the show. She brought her laptop and did a parody of the FMA movie using screencaps that had everyone literally rolling on the floor with laughter. I hope she puts it up on her LJ soon (the whole thing not just the words). Unfortunately, it will not capture Cryo's vocal performance or her gestures which were as much fun as what was on the screen. They created a catagory on the spot so she could earn a prize for it. I'm not kidding.
I also met with
sockren for about 10 minutes. I really really meant to hunt the guy down again, but I just didn't see him. Sigh. However, I have to now wack him with a fish for getting me so scared. Dude, freaking ZERO waiting time for tickets. And I got TWO threesome doujins. Hah! And how the hell did I miss you at Creation station. I hung out there for like half the con.
I met
vikki, too. And lets just say, they worked the freaking pants off her. Between that and the fact that she looks fucking awesome in cosplay, she was pretty much spoken for the entire con. I really regret not getting to say goodbye to her in person, but when I tried to, the freaking gaurds wouldn't let me back to see her. They told me I could wait for her to come out, but I couldn't. Hopefully she's coming to Yaoicon.
I also got to see
ushigami on Sunday. That was great. She hung out with us for a while, and even drew spontanious genderswitch Al and Roy. Man, she would have so won the art contest with those if she'd been around. But then maybe they'd object to content because of all the freaking minors... humph.
I showed
kaitou_marina just how much of a dork I am by not recognizing her out of cosplay. It went like this.
Me to Kaitou: Damn I was hoping to see Kaitou again today.
Kaitou: Er?
Me: Yeah, she was so much fun!
Kaitou: Well, huh! heh!
Cryo: Kaitou is standing right next to you, you ass!
Me: *turns into puddle of shame*
I did NOT get to see
honooko dang it! I don't know what happened. I hope she had a good con.
