I doubt it, but knowing this place, there's always the possibility. It's good to hear from someone who hasn't completely bought into traditionalist dogma, at least.
Where I'm from, the mage guilds are all about nepotism and money. Talent as nothing to do with it. Because my family isn't already in one, and has no money, those fuckers would never let me into one. Despite the fact that I've got more talent as a teenager than those jackasses get in a lifetime.

Mages' associations are the same everywhere, then. Mine judges merit based on lineage rather than talent or knowledge. Since my family has only been practicing magecraft for three generations, most of my lecturers barely considered me worthy of letting into the library.
And here I thought ours were harsh. My former mentor managed to fool then though, and ran off with a ton of their books and materials. Then I eventually stole them from him.
