Vacation Tragedy & Fun

Aug 02, 2007 04:53

I've been in Minnesota for a little over a week now, and wouldn't you know it... while I'm here they have a HUGE tragedy. The 35W bridge over the Mississippi River collapsed last night during rush hour, falling 60 feet into the water and so far killing 7 people, 20 still missing, and 60+ injured. I used to travel on that bridge all the time, and was on it just a few days ago. I feel sick to my stomach just thinking about what happened and watching the news about it. I can't even imagine.  those poor people.

Last weekend, my nephew Jacob had a wakeboarding accident while we were at my sisters cabin in Wisconsin. He got hit in the head when he wiped out and the fin split the back of his head open. Since I was the only one with any medical training on scene, I got to care for him. He must have lost at least a pint of blood in the water before we even got him into the boat. I then offered to drive him to the hospital which was almost an hour away, since we were in the middle of NOWHERE! 6 big stitches, which I get to remove myself when he is in AZ with me. Fun times... Poor kid! At least it wasn't worse!

On the UPSIDE of things... I met an absolutely AWESOME guy while here. He could be a motivating factor in me moving back to MN someday. He brought me flowers and SANG to me the other night! SO not Kingman!! Sparks are flying! That's all I'm willing to share at this point... but I am in awe. What a great guy!

I also got to go fishing and caught about 5-6 largemouth Bass. Jacob caught a lunker (4.5 lbs - the little turd!) and put my little fish to shame. I went tubing and realized I'm not as young as I think I am anymore! OUCH! But - OH SO MUCH FUN!

On Friday night, my last night here, I am going to do a show with my old singing group, The Singing Express. I got a call on Tuesday morning asking if I would be interested in doing it. A little scary because it's been so long since I've performed with them, but it will be fun I'm sure. I'll post lots of pics for you all to laugh at later!

I'll be back to reality on Saturday - bringing Haleigh and Jacob with me for a few weeks. TTFN!
