Finished Casshern Sins! I REALLY LOVED IT. It was such a great (fascinating?) look at death, dying and living. The whole Ruin aspect of the story has a lot of similarities with terminal illness and seeing the ways that different people deal with their impending demise was heartbreaking. I liked a lot of the open-ended and vagueness of what really happened to Luna/The Ruin/Casshern. Dio and Leda (especially poor Leda ;;;;;;) were wonderful antagonists and really all the "villans" in general were very sympathetic and I honestly have a hard time even calling them villains. GOOD STUFF. ;;;;;
I recently rewatched Mobile Suit Gundam, Zeta Gundam and Char's Counterattack because Kite's story from Hunter x Hunter WAS REALLY BUMMING ME OUT and lmao he shares the same voice actor as Char Aznable so I figured I'd cheer myself up by watching Char be a fabulous asshole.
BUT. BUT THEN I GOT SUCKED INTO THE WHOLE STORY AND AMURO'S AND CHAR'S SHARED STORY IN PARTICULAR AND UGGGGH IT MADE A LOT SADDER THAN I WANTED TO BE. I love Mobile Suit Gundam and Zeta Gundam a LOT but I'm more conflicted about Char's Counterattack (in terms of it being the end to the Amuro/Char story). One one hand, it's NOT surprising to me that Char would eventually go to a really extreme and mentally unstable route and the two of them sharing their last moments (probable last moments lmao) angrily arguing about Char's Oedipus Complex is both hilarious and depressingly fitting in a sort of way. But one the other hand, it's so disappointing. IT'S LIKE WATCHING TWO PEOPLE HAVE A VERY STRANGE AND INTENSE RELATIONSHIP BASED ON CONFLICT AND PAIN, GROW UP, HEAL AND LEARN TO UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER, AND THEN TAKE SIXTY STEPS BACK TO BITTERNESS AND INSANITY AND A COMPLETE LACK ON UNDERSTANDING LMAO. God.
ANYWAYS my rewatching led me to checking some more recent Gundam related news (because I haven't watched anything since the first season of Gundam 00 aired) AND OH GOD OH GOD IT LOOKS LIKE MSG: THE ORIGIN IS GOING TO GET AN ANIME ADAPTATION IN 2014/2015 AND OH GOD I'M SO EXCITED BECAUSE IT'S THE MANGA VERSION OF THE FIRST SERIES AND OH GOD I LOVE A LOT OF THE CHANGES IT MADE (SINCE THE MANGA CAME AFTER THE FIRST ANIME) AND OH GOD I WANT TO SEE THE WHOLE THING IN GORGEOUS MODERN ANIMATION AND OH GOD OH GOD I'M SO EXCITED THIS IS EVERYTHING I WANT OH GOD. ♥♥♥♥
God the reanimated stuff from the Zeta movies, in 2005, LOOKS SO PRETTY (ESPECIALLY THE AMURO/CHAR REUNION AFTER LIKE SEVEN YEARS SCENE S-SOB):
