Grr

There was a guy from the southern baptist church talking in the middle of campus today. He was pretty respectful and polite. I stayed around for about an hour listening to him talk to kids about their problems with religion. He was a pretty smart guy, and inviting enough that I even asked a few questions. The part that frustrated me was not what he had to say or why he was there, he believes in something that he feels can help people, but rather what other students had to say about it. I don't think a single person there had put much thought into religion beyond the idea that "it's just bullshit." They really showed their ignorance today by trying to argue what they knew nothing about. In fact, the rap that these Christian "evangelists" get for being stubborn and uneducated was the role that the rest of the school took today.

I don't care what you believe in or don't believe in, but for fuck sake! know why you feel the way you do. And if you fancy yourself intelligent and "above christianity" then you should know about what you are above. If you fancy yourself open-minded then BE OPEN-MINDED even about things that you don't agree with. Isn't that kinda the point?

I got on live journal to talk about the questions that I didn't have a chance to ask him and some thoughts that I had about the points that he made, but all I can think about is how pretentious everyone was in their beliefs.
