into every life, a little rain must fall

silverhawk  took me backpacking in Shenandoah NP.  We started on a little piece of the Appalachian Trail and headed downhill to a big waterfall, which was a bit of a trickle at the time.  Then continued on down the way to camp along a stream even further down.  Along the way, maybe the middle of the afternoon, the threatening clouds made good on their treat and dribbled water all over the place.  Oddly, they didn't seem to quite get to us, most of the time, as we were protected by the tree canopy.

It dried up for the rest of the afternoon and the evening except for some light stuff late.  Fireflies sparked in the forest in the dimming dry and the darkening moist.  We went to bed as it became very dark.  Overnight, the water came down in torrents from time to time.  Afterward, the stream we camped by had swollen to maybe twice its original size and become much more turbulent.

It was dry again for morning, but still threatening.  We'd gotten moist in the tent and everything got packed away wet.  The new bear bag worked great as it's a dry sack. We headed out to hike back up, the up beginning just after we figured out how to cross the raging stream.
