I headed up the upper north fork of Matilija so that I might finish off the trail in an overnight backpacking trip. It was frosty in the canyon, but dried out a little as I climbed. At the first climb, I stopped to draw a bit of the canyon downstream and even a bit of the stream visible nearly directly below.
By then I'd already passed by two campgrounds. I passed by the next and went up the second climb in the canyon, giving view of the little waterfall on the other side of the canyon. There was a little water, but not much. After that, the trail was new to me. It goes over a little bump and then drops back down into the stream where there was a small unsanctioned campsite. I continued on to the next campground, which looked like it was less used than the others, but it was dry and not particularly cold. Yet.
