Arc Pass for the view

We climb out as the sun hits us, a rather late time to be getting up.  We dry off from the night dew and have breakfast.  I pulled down my shelter, but it seems that today is going to be a rest day with day hiking to Arc Pass.  We discuss the mountains near it and that we could maybe go up one of them although we don't know the route.  We head out, making sure everything left is secured against rain.  I fold over the bivy and put a rock down to hold it that way, but it turns out to be a poor choice of method.

The pass isn't too hard to get to, although some seem determined to find the harder routes.  I start choosing my own halfway up and the way gets easier.  We reach the pass just in time to see Whitney vanish into cloud.  We hang out shortly and the hail starts again.  We take shelter and lunch.  The shelter either has a good overhang but the ice is coming from the open side, or a poor overhang but the rock blocks most the ice.  After a while, we decide to collect ourselves and head down.  I scared a couple rams with nice, big horns circling their heads, but only manage a butt shot.  I find a tree on the way down, and decide to commemorate it with a drawing although there are a few of these trying to make it above the treeline.

At camp, the sky turning blue again, I find that the rock has caused the bivy to leak, or maybe it was flow along the bottom section of bivy.  Either way, the hood of my sleeping bag has gotten wet.  I wring it out as best I can and set it out in the little sunlight left before it clouds up again.  I set up another shelter, putting the emergency blanket down to protect the bivy, which is longer than my mat.  It takes forever to get the blanket unrolled.  The years have made it stick to itself very well.  I wonder if gold or silver is supposed to be the shinny side and settle on gold up.  There is no rain in the night anyway, not even the couple sprinkles the preious night had, so all is well anyway.
