I finished a hat, I did.  It's all wooly and soft.  Except the brim which has a bit of starched canvas in it to stiffen it up.

I decorated it with a butterfly patter in somewhat random placement as I knitted the crown.  They start out a little thinner than they finish up.  They're done on doubled yarn, then the yarn is split for the brim so that one goes along the top and the other along the bottom leaving a slot to put in the canvas and bind it off.  That makes it sound much more straightforward than it actually was, since I didn't start out with the yarn doubled and wasn't getting the right effect with that, besides it being meant as a winter hat and it was really too thin for that.  So I restarted doubled up.  The brim I wanted to be soft but stick out, so tried to do it with sewing in circles close together, but that was almost useless in the soft wool even if it might really work for cotton.  That left me ripping all those seams out and then undoing the original bind off.  Then I'd cut the canvas as wide as the hat seemed to be, but that's unstretchered, so I had to shuffle the bound off bit around this way and that to allow cutting more off the outside edge.  I made the inner part of the canvas fit somewhat loosely and may have got it just a bit too loose, but I'm not sure there.  So there were troubles along the way, but they all got sorted in the end.
