The Lab Rats eps are usually pretty funny, and it's nice to see Kate getting work, BUT WHATEVER THEY PASSED OVER KATEE FOR LAUREN LEE SMITH AS THE NEW CSI, I'M STILL NOT OVER IT.
MORPHEUS AND STARBUCK FIGHTING CRIME, jfc it would have been so magical. :(
I'm not a fan of this season either. It's been adequate, I guess? But none of it is really memorable, other than Grissom's last eps, and maybe the Lady Heather ep but even that one was pretty boring. I get that they want to establish Ray (and I like him, I do) and get back into the procedural swing of things, but it's stacking up to be a lot of filler. Nick's Taylor Swift episode was semi-decent, but didn't come close to touching the emotional resonance of his other very special crying episodes. The courtroom and CSI in peril episodes failed at really building any suspense, they felt like lesser imitations of stuff the show has already done. The writing has just been blah, and the next episode looks like the trainwreck to end all trainwrecks. :/
They're drifting way too far into their whole "it's not about the personal storylines" mantra, IMO. The casefile is incredibly important to any successful episode, don't get me wrong, but without some character work it's like shoveling down a bunch of cake w/o frosting, it's missing the good stuff and I might as well be watching true crime shows on A&E. Even Catherine has had no personal life for the last year, FFS.
And Ray is supposedly the lead on the show and has been for six episodes, and yet we know almost nothing about him. That's not incredibly engaging, even if the actor is charismatic enough to mask some of it. (We knew a lot more about Keppler in 4 episodes, and really after only the first few. And he was pre-determined worm food.) And I agree that he is pretty damn Grissom-y -- quite reserved and private, an academic, a little dark and quirky, reliable and loyal.
Plus, they've been bending their own pre-established rules for newbie CSIs way too far, even casual fans must pick up on it, that's been v annoying for me.
In the early spoilers for Grissom's departure, he was supposed to get a brain tumor and then GSR fans went apeshit
LOL, where did you hear that? That definitely never happened. :P I mean, I have seen my sets of fake wiki spoilers in the day, like the whole Nick finding dead Warrick thing people still cling to even though it's obvious it was just made up by some random fan. But there was definitely never any brain tumor, nor a fan revolt. (I read the boards, I would have been LOL'ing over that forever.)
According to Petersen, they originally drafted a version where Grissom basically had a cake in the breakroom before leaving, and he asked for that to be removed. But that's it.
I think he mentioned that he wouldn't have Grissom die of a brain tumor (or something like that) when he left because he thought that was lame, but that was after Gary was announced to be leaving, and it wasn't in reply to any rumors.
Even when they announced he was leaving, they said he would be back for a guest appearance at some point and was staying on as EP, so there were never any rumors Grissom would die because unlike some other shows that shall remain nameless, CSI doesn't have ghost characters lounging around having sex with people because he has to be alive when he comes back.
This is the interview where Grissom mentions there will be no brain tumor. It's from October 2008, several months after the announcement he was leaving (July 2008) where they said Grissom would be back after his "last episode", which would have killed any rumors before they could start. (This was all after Warrick was shot in the spring.)
I only wish the GSR comms had freaked out over a brain tumor, that would have entertained me for weeks.
When it comes to CSI, I don't believe anything unless I see it with my own eyes, good or bad, about things or people I like or don't. It's capacity for wanky games of absurd telephone are a wonder of the universe.
