If you haven't already (which I doubt!), you should check out the lovely McShep community

Their Bedroom.
I also seem to have signed up at
au_bigbang. I hope this will motivate me to write the "New Shores" sequel I have ideas for.
Kissing penguins. So John and Rodney. It's not so much the cuteness I love, but how loving they look.

I had the hardest time with the "Borrowed" challenge at
mcsheplets.
First, I thought about a story where Susan Sheppard is fascinated with John's wristband, so he gives it to her only for the duration of the stay. Pre-teen drama queen that she is, she talks to John about marriage, answers the phone when Rodney calls, annoys him a bit, sees how John lights up as he talks to Rodney and assumes that Rodney is John's boyfriends. John sets her right, but she gets them together anyway.
It wasn't a bad story, but not really great either, considering that it was pretty long. Plus, John and Rodney insisted on getting together off-screen. I might want to make notes for this one tough, because I do like parts of it, especially when Susan realizes that the very dramatic pining for a straight person thing is not so great if it's real and hurts.

After that came an idea where Rodney keeps "borrowing" things from John, pens, DVDs, etc. John has gotten used to it. Somewhere in the near future when Rodney is single again, they are allowed to get new quarters but Rodney says he would never share. So John is looking for his own room, when Rodney eventually comes to him and shows him all the things of John that he accumulated over the years and that it made him realize that he's gotten used to having John in his space, so they might as well move in together. John sees that as a step towards possibly more.
This story just didn't really want to go places that made sense. There's only so often that I can do the moving together without being together thing. And I was really stretching how much Rodney would keep from John for the sake of the prompt.

Then came Vegas Sheppard, who's already "borrowed" money, so I thought what else could he steal and had him wake up on the Daedalus, where Rodney tries to convince him to be his light switch and to consider joining them. John doesn't believe the higher ups would ever let him and thinks Rodney just sees the other John he once met.
I got to a point where Rodney refuses to stop following John who's allowed off the ship, but it kind of didn't end and while I really want to write a Vegas verse story eventually (I need to put into words that Rodney was wrong about John being involved with the dead medic and that Rodney is divorced and just still wearing his ring out of the faint hope there will be another chance), I can't do it for this challenge.

There's a happy end though, since I managed to come up with a bit about John and Rodney in Antarctica before they go to Atlantis. Not new, but short and I liked the idea. And then came a bit of Joe/David, dealing with their first public appearance together. So now I'll have two challenge answers :)
