It’s been a while since I did the newsletter…haven’t flexed that muscle in a while, and I hope it’s not all flabby and atrophied. I know you’ve all been enjoying Tom Batten’s stint as newsletter scribe, evidenced by the piles of fan mail the guy gets. I’ll try to do him justice, try to inform AND entertain, and if I do it right, maybe make you think and feel a bit, too. Let’s go!

-WARREN ELLIS has 3 n00bs from Avatar this week: the hotly anticipated BLACK SUMMER #1, in which a super-hero kills the president over his crimes against humanity. Also, DOKTOR SLEEPLESS #1, the new sci-fi head trip. Lastly, the standalone GN CRECY, historical fiction with newly made-up swear words in the Ellis tradition!
-BATMAN #666: I try not to hype books suffering from lateness too much, but this one looks real good. A tale of tomorrow as Batman’s son Damian has taken over for the Dark Knight in a bleak future. What, you didn’t know Bats had a son? Grant Morrison’s making Batman essential reading, people! Check it out!
-COMICS INTROSPECTIVE VOL 1 PETER BAGGE SC: Richmond dude Christopher Irving interviews one of the greats of independent comix in this debut volume from Twomorrows. Bagge discusses at length ‘Hate’, ‘Apocalypse Nerd’, his flirtations with the mainstream and Hollywood, and surely much more.
-SNAKEPIT 2 LIFE IN A JUGULAR VEIN: More Richmond-linked goodness as autobio comics up-and-comer Ben Snakepit delivers a new collection of ‘toons about music, life and the dirt that happens in between.
-SOUNDS OF YOUR NAME GN: Beloved cartoonist Nate Powell’s new, long-awaited collection of older and newer works arrives. Seriously, I have more random people come in off the street and inquire about Powell’s work than just about any other cartoonist.
