Bragging Rights
I'm now an award winning journalist, at least in the realm of student newspapers.
The New Jersey Newspaper Foundation announced its 2006 Better College Newspaper Awards this week, and our student newspaper, The Record took four first place awards in the category for two-year colleges. The paper took first place in "Layout and Design", "Overall Excellence", "Feature Writing" and "Opinion Writing" as well as second place in "Feature Writing" and two honorable mentions in "News Writing".
The first place in "Feature Writing" and one of the honorable mentions were for articles that I wrote.
Now, if I ever start to let that go to my head, I have the new job at the newspaper to remind me more or less daily about how much I have to learn as a professional journalist! Still, I'm very proud to see the hard work that I've seen the professors, students and volunteers putting into our little monthly rag be recognized. I can now say I write for the best damn community college paper in the state.
