Biscuits and Gravy

So we went to visit Lizard's old friends yesterday evening. For some reason I kept wanting to call them Chip and Dale, even though I know that wasn't their names. For sake of things we'll just leave it at that. They were polite enough, well guarded and almost suspicious of us. Chip seemed especially distracted like he really wanted to leave. Every few minutes I'd catch him rapping his fingers on the table and glancing behind me toward the door. I wonder if they were worried what Josh and I would think of them. I snapped at Jane again, she was nitpicking against Josh's choice of answer in Apples to Apples. At least after that her comments were limited to scolding us like the children we are at our lack of historical understanding. *sigh*

Chip and Dale brought lots of obscure foreign treats for Lizard like soybean flavored Pocky and some sort of candied water chestnuts. I tried a 'rice candy wrapped in seaweed' just to say I had. It was nasty, tasted vaguely of fish oil and salt and nothing else. I'll leave the soybean pocky for Lizard, that experiment cost me a whole can of Dr pepper.

There were a couple of things that I said without thinking, but I'm not going to dwell on them seeing as it's far too late to take them back. The breakfast was, as expected, plentiful. The sausages and bacon were delicious, the eggs fluffy, and the biscuits perfectly flaky while not being crumbly or dry. The gravy was nothing to write home about, but then I've never been a big biscuits and gravy fan. All in all, very generous of them to make such a wonderful meal. Josh and I left early since Josh still had homework to do. I'm glad we had to head off, I got the impression 'the gang' would like to be alone.
