My petty fandom woes

My new pet peeve is Ao3 authors who tag their MCU fic with "(comics)" fandoms either because the fics contain minor canon from the comics or for pretty much no reason at all. The Black Widow (comics) section is even smaller than it first appears. Like, just because you've given Natasha a cat named Liho in your MCU fic, you really don't need to also tag it as comics fic.

And, okay, I'm feeling especially peeved about this because Natasha was turned down as a Yuletide character because she's been tagged in over 1000 616 fics. Which is fair enough on the part of the Yuletide mods. When
ranalore so graciously nominated on my behalf, I only thought to check the numbers for the fandom I was nominating. The problem is my suspicion that many of those tags are not really comics fic, and people mistagging has cost Natasha her presence in Yuletide.

Now, maybe I'm wrong and the numbers aren't off by that much. Marvel 616 covers a lot of ground and Natasha's popular. I can't prove this. And plenty of other great characters got approved. I can totally get Isaiah fic or Yelena fic. (I think it would be cruel to ask someone to write both Isaiah and Yelena, because Yelena is currently dead, if I'm not mistaken. On the other hand, I see no reason she can't be brought back to life either in fic or in canon, and Isaiah and Yelena's epic road trip would be a thing of beauty. Violent, messy beauty.)

Luckily, while I'm still in a downswing, I'm not doing as badly as I was when nominations were going on, so this feels like a minor disappoint rather than the end of the world.

But, really, people, is it so much to ask that I get some Natasha fic based on this current comics run?
