So, I'm rewatching the White Collar pilot. I thought I was going to just jot down a few odd thoughts, and, uh, there more than a few. But I actually tried to put the kibosh on anything to deep or thoughtful. Though there might be some interesting meta posts to be written.

1. While Neal is walking out the prison dressed as guard, one of the inmates looks at him real hard for several seconds. He totally recognizes Neal. I WANT THAT GUY'S LIFE STORY. (Sorry for the shouting.)

2. After Neal hotwires the truck, he slips in a cassette. Seriously, when Neal made his escape plan, he included the all vital driving music. Hey, some guys have class, some don't.

3. "How many of you went to Havard? Don't raise your hand... don't."

I think Peter has a bit of what TV tropes calls early installment weirdness. While Neal is pretty much the same person is 1x01 as he is in 1x02 and 1x03, Peter in the pilot is gruffer, not just with Neal (which is character development), but with his coworkers. I don't see Peter of the other episodes insulting Jones. That said, I could do with more sarcastic-and-surrounded-by-idiots!Peter in my life.

4. Oh god, Peter's face when he hears that Neal escaped using the warden's wife's credit card. That smile. Boys!

I'm pretty vocal about Neal being my favorite, but I'm just overwhelmed with Peter love right now.

5. I think it might be important to note that it's not really Neal's powers of persuasion that get him the anklet deal. I mean, he makes a good case, which I'm sure was part of Peter's thought process, but Peter hears Neal's offer and turns him down. It's only later, when (inspired by El) he considers Neal's feelings, that he agrees, which is not how Neal pitched it at all.

6. The Neal June interplay is brilliant. When Neal asks her if she lives nearby, and she says, "Not far," I swear, you can tell she's already made up her mind. (June for president!)

7. Peter schooling the suspect in literature = endless win.

I also rewatched 2x09 today to write my Kate and Fowler fic, and I don't think I ever fully appreciated how good Matt Bomer's acting is in that before now. His expression after Peter tells him that Fowler bought the explosives that blew up the plane is excellent: smiling but it's clearly a not quite right sort of smile. And the way he just goes flat when Peter benches him.

Noah Emmerich is good too. When Neal demands to know why Fowler killed Kate, you can see Emmerichs face change just a bit, but you can tell that he's surprised.
