My commentary on Count Cain continues. As usual, there will be spoilers for the entire series, up to the end of Godchild. All quotes are from the Viz version unless otherwise noted. I apologize for any typos. I can never manage to catch them all.

Me: Oh, god.
Riff is a giver. He gives and gives to Cain, and he never asks for anything in return. Except now. This is the only moment of selfishness that Riff ever shows, which makes it all the more powerful.
Cain's need for Riff is more obvious, but I think that Riff's dependence on Cain is even greater. Cain is everything to him. Cain can survive without Riff, but I truly think that Riff would die without Cain. He would quite literally lose the will to live.
Cain: You're holding me so tight I can't breathe, Riff. Keep holding me, though. If you let me go... I might break into pieces. If you stop holding me... I'm afraid I'll die.
Me: Oh, god again.
That's their relationship in a nutshell: co-dependent, severely unhealthy... and exactly what they both need. THIS. i swear there are no words (that and my brain can't function this early in the morning) but yeah, if there was one ( ... )

I love manga commentary like this, and if I were so inclined, I'd ask you to marry me. I'll settle for asking to worship the ground you walk on :D
That was just my wacky crossover fantasies. But let us consider the similarities between Jezebel and Muraki Kazutaka from Yami no Matsuei.
Holy crap, I'm not the only one who sees it! Yes, a YnM fangirl here, too. I've had people mistake my Jezebel icon for Muraki, and seen Jezebel cosplayers at conventions (*fangirl squeal*) mistaken for Muraki by the unknowing. But you have to admit, they're creepily similar (granted, Jezebel probably won't return to torment our heroes after the end, and Muraki...hell, I'm not even convinced he's human, or at least not fully. I have my own crack theory about him). Also:
and the splash page has Cain licking blood from Riff's wrist. Cain is a vampire! Come to think of it, I've never seen a vampire AU in this fandom....I'll write it! I have an original fiction vampire who's closely based off Cain (though ( ... )

Though it seems a little odd that people confuse Muraki and Jezebel visually. They have very different hairstyles, which, let's face it, is sometimes the only way that one can tell manga characters apart.
Your vampire!Cain idea is pretty much the same as mine, except that I don't read Anita Blake (first book didn't really catch my interest). Also, I want them to fight Cain's evil vampire sire. Jezebel's also a vampire, though Cassian isn't. Merry is a human girl that Cain has taken in, perhaps the child of one of his sire's victims. This is fun!

My theory, and it turns out, a friend's theory, is based off noted similarities between Muraki and everyone's favorite Invisible Pervert of Meifu (they're both infatuated with Tsuzuki, and definitely don't look like the everyday Japanese guy you'd pass by on the streets of Japan), as well as their differences (Muraki can be freaking evil, Hakushaku is a not-so-wicked pervert who doesn't get his jollies from dismembering people). We eventually built up a scenario in a roleplay where Hakushaku, in a fit of curiosity about things in the living world, took on mortal form for a good 50+ years or so. He marries a nice sensible Japanese lady, and becomes a doctor, the same doctor (in the roleplay-verse) who takes care of/studies Tsuzuki during his eight years of trying to off himself while foregoing food, drink and sleep. Of course, Hakushaku doesn't quite manage to make himself human down to the genetic level, so his offspring and subsequent ( ... )

The part dragon theory, if I'm remembering correctly, is that Muraki traded his missing eye with a dragon and wound up with a dragon eye in the the process. I think that was part of it. It was very well thought out.
Yes, Alexis is definitely Cain's sire. I wonder what Oscar is? I'm tempted to make him a werewolf just to make a Twilight pedophile werewolf joke, but I think that I must resist.
Tell me all about your O.U. version of Riff!

Heh, I feel like that could describe a lot of the dialogue between Riff and Cain.
Cain really is terribly needy. But Riff is too, so it all works out.
Thank you!
