Iron Man 2 - Random thoughts

May 06, 2010 00:25

It's been a while since I've posted anything, and I probably won't be posting again in a while (haven't had the time nor the inspiration to write any fic in ages), but I just saw Iron Man 2, and I feel like I sharing my first impressions! (And ranting a bit.)

First of all, yay!!! I loved it. It was fun, it was cool, it was great! I have to admit, though, that I still like the first movie more. Somehow, there seemed to be a bit too much stuff going on in IM 2 - I think it could've been a little more focused, and... Truth be told, the thing that actually annoyed me most was that the science felt even sillier than in the first movie.

I would so very much like to have an even borderline credible explanation for what the arc reactor in Tony's chest is actually supposed to be doing (yes, I know, shrapnel, magnet & so on - but that didn't seem to fit with anything that was going on, and they didn't mention it either). And while I, as a h/c-addict, loved the whole "Tony's dying"-plotline very much, palladium toxicity? Seriously? Never heard of that one. Plus, the mysterious "new element"(!!) that Tony created with a particle accelerator that he built in his shop (seriously?!?), which then magically cleared away the palladium (that scene, btw, reminded me of a toothpaste or breath mint commercial or some such)... I just couldn't suspend my disbelief that far. Sure, the first Iron Man movie did have ridiculous science too, but in IM 2 this stuff bothered me enough to actually lessen my viewing pleasure. Of course, it might be because I'm studying science stuff now. Hrm.

Aaaaanyway, I really did love the movie. RDJ as Tony Stark is still one of my favourite characters anywhere ever, I squeed over the Tony/Pepper stuff, I'm starting to accept Don Cheadle as Rhodey (he was great, nothing to complain about, it's just hard to change my mental image of a character), I thoroughly enjoyed Mickey Rourke's Whiplash, and somehow, I even managed not to be annoyed at Scarlett Johansson. Oh, and Jarvis! <3 (There should be lots and lots of fic about Jarvis worrying over Tony as he's getting worse.) Also, the special effects were great, and all the cool gizmos and gadgets were absolutely brilliant!

I'm definitely going to see it again. And again, and again.

iron man, iron man 2
